@Dota 2 players, is LoL or Dota 2 more difficult?

Just curious a thought, sometimes I look for other games to try but Dota 2 feels so inaccessible

League is more about decisive on the dot actions. Dota 2 is slower paced and more strategically oriented play by play.
Your choice.

Way WAYYYYY more burden of knowledge for dota 2.

But I wouldn't say...harder. once you spend 5 years learning everything it's about even.

It's different. For players with bad mechanics, LoL is the harder game. For players with bad positioning/map awareness/item optimization, DotA 2 is the harder game.

DotA 2 has a knowledge barrier that is difficult to learn due to its vastness. Complex =/= harder, but it adds layers of additional options, advantages and disadvantages. Here are some of the major differences among the two:

League:

  • No cast time (0.0) seconds on all attacks/spells for every champion, with exception of channeling, which doesn't count.

  • Simpler build paths (build armor against ad, build magic resistance against ap, etc).

  • Compact/smaller map, no obstructed vision (minus bushes), completely flat (no hills/mountains).

  • Very role-specific, limited amount of off-meta choices = very commonly played/banned champions.

  • No buy-back, no courier, no teleport scrolls for cross-map ganking in exchange for free recalls.

  • Less single-carry-oriented due to limited amount of gold advantage one player can obtain (no supports stacking jungle, sending clones with radiance to farm 3 lanes, etc) = more reliant on your team.

  • Less wombo/combo team compositions.

  • Less creativity/variety due to simplified build paths and efficient spell order path (though this may change with the new honor update coming 7.13).

  • More mechanically reliant at higher levels (yasuo, riven, lee, etc) to allow for outplay.

DotA 2:

  • Every single cast time is different for every single hero. Only after ridiculous amounts of experience is when you remember every hero's animation by muscle memory.

  • More items, more item variety = more complex build paths (Heroes can have up to 5-6 viable build paths i.e. Juggernaut, Invoker)

  • Day/Night, trees obstruct vision, trees can be cut down with certain items or spells.

  • Very strategic game, especially for Captain's Mode which is the draft mode you see for professional play, compositions can completely dominate a lane (tri-lanes exist, two supports hide in fog, harass, roam or stack jungle creeps, 3v1 lane, etc).

  • Higher punishment upon death in exchange for courier/being able to buy items out of lane in a separate inventory (although supports are forced to fork over their own gold to buy it, which can lead to teammates flaming each other).

  • Late game carries are truly late game carries = single handily winning is more frequently possible.

  • WOMBO COMBOS (i.e. Mirana/Bane/Any carry = Sleep for 5 seconds, free arrow from a mile away into 5 seconds of pure stun).

  • Less mechanically reliant with the exception of Invoker/Meepo (although meepo is easier than people think). Higher priority placed on positioning and map awareness due to global presence (i.e. Furion's W = global tp anywhere on map 20 sec cd @ max level or Storm Spirit's R = global dash that drains mana per distance covered + deal damage on location).

  • Having a wealth of knowledge rewards you more so.

Neither is easier or harder. It depends on the player. As to which is more complex? Dota 2. But yeah, complexity =/= difficulty. i.e. Sports vs eSports. Most sports are quite simple. You put some sort of ball into some sort of objective, but you get really good at doing it. Mobas are quite complex in comparison. Which is more difficult? Depends on the person.
