Is the POWER GAP between a level 20 and level 30 huge?

I just can't figure out how play this game well; at least in the early game. I understand the basics and am decent in late game team fights, and I understand the strategies of ganking and warding. But the early game baffles me.

For example, Yasuo is free this week. I wanted to try him out, but I'm noticing that the only thing I can do in lane phase is poke with Q/E and just run away the whole match. At least until level 6, I'm like a scared b*tch.

I watch the pro's play Yasuo and at level 1, I see them E (dash) in, auto attack, E out, and repeat. Then when they find an opening, they go all in and ignite. Yet when I copy their runes and masteries to the best that a level 22 can, I don't do nearly as much damage as they do and my opponent just chases me and drops my life to half health while they only lose 10-20%.

My normal games usually start with me going 0/4, then I get it closer to even towards the end at like 6/8. Is there something I'm failing to see during lane phase?

Runes/masteries are a very big thing. They affect nearly half your early game damage and tankyness. By lategame their power falls off, which would be a reason you are noticing you are "bouncing back" a bit more later on in the game.

Think of it this way... Your early game runes are worth nearly 750-1k gold on average. That is a massive power difference. At level 22, I bet you only have the T1 runes as well, which... well.... suck. Bad. You are going into games with nearly 500 or so less gold, and Yasuo is VERY dependent on his stats being decent, more than most MADCs, as he has no passive steriods in his kit that take affect without prior stats.

If you have all your rune slots filled with tier 3 runes, it shouldn't make that difference, more like 20%. I think it's more of a minion wave control/enemy cooldowns/dodging skillshots thing. Yasuo isn't as straightforward in laning phase due to not having a lot of burst.

What you may not realize, runes and masteries aside, is that Minions, not champions, decide really early game fights. If you all in an enemy with a minion advantage, those little guys can deal upwards of 400 damage-which is enormous in an early game fight.

Thank you all for your advices. I took a step back and really looked at how I played my matches. It turns out, it was because of the minions. I decided to play a bit more defensively, got a doran's shield, gave up some cs to farm closer to my tower, and only jumped in when my opponent had 2-3 minions left.

The difference in damage I took was crazy. I still need to work on cs a bit when in a defensive position, like most mid ADCs. But at least now I know what to work on.
