I've finally caved after my big bro and his friends have been pestering me to play Ranked, and I was wondering how do placements decide which division to drop you in and what exactly is the criteria for certain divisions.
You have an unseen score called MMR. Everyone starts ranked with the same MMR. Whenever you win game, you gain MMR depending on how high your team's MMR was compared to the enemy team's MMR. The higher your MMR was compared to theirs, the less you will gain. And when you lose a game, you lose MMR depending on both team's MMR too. Placement matches affect your MMR significantly more than regular ranked games. And then once you've finished all 10, you are placed in the division that matches your MMR.
