Will Champion Mastery reset for champions who are reworked?

Curious how reworks effect the Champion mastery system. If a champion is reworked and receives a brand new kit/gameplay update would mastery level of that champion reset for everyone who owned them before the rework? I would think that would make sense since a champ getting a reworked kit is almost like getting a new champ altogether (Imo anyway)
