I need someone who's an expert on the knowledge of Ping

I have nobody else using the internet in my house for some games I play yet I will still randomly spike to 300-1k ping. I seriously haven't a clue on how I can fix this. It gets extremely frustrating to play at all when I feel like im constantly cleaning and resetting my computer to keep it running well and I still get this ridiculous ping that spikes out of nowhere. I know its not the server or where I currently live. It is just me getting this lag. Please someone help me understand how I can fix this issue because I'm really struggling here.

Edit: Also Riot, I thought it was GAMEPLAY and balance, not balance and balance.

There are a few possible problems.

  1. Your ISP may be having issues.
  2. Your router could be dying (they burn out pretty easily)
  3. Wi-Fi could be too far, if you're on wireless.

But other than those general stabs we would need more information to say anything definite.

This happens to me often, but it's usually because a roommate is downloading or has a anime sight with tons of adds up (I was surprised that closing his anime tab lowered my ping by like 50). One of them isn't very computer savy and sometimes has auto updates every now and then. Then again that's what causes my ping spikes most often.

Are you running other programs while playing league? My buddy experiences this whenever he has chrome up.

Try resetting your router, that usually works for me. Otherwise, like Nik said, check to see what other programs are running. Personally, I have to quit Steam before I start playing League or I'll have issues. If other people are on your network downloading or streaming that may affect it also.

  1. Do you have a PS4? If yes - it auto updates by default and will download content whenever it's powered on.

  2. What's running in the background? Do you have One Drive turned on (default is on) it could be backing up while you're playing.

Depends... There are 100 + things that could cause your ping to spike. It also matters if you are on Wifi, Aircard or Cable. If it's wifi or an aircard make sure there is nothing around to screw up the single and keep it close to a window.

Fixes would be

reset modem to factory settings reset router to factory settings and reinstall a fresh copy of windows

that will fix what ever problem you have guaranteed .. Otherwise you will lose your hair trying to figure out the problem and it's easier to do the 3 things listed to fix all problems then to spend forever trying to find a fix. Plus trying to play with a ping like that will get you banned eventually either through reports or leave buster.
