Or are there too many people just trolling around because it's the start of the season?

I'd say give it a week or two to let matchmaking be a little less shit.
I want to say yes, because right now, I just started playing placement matches with my boyfriend and we've only done 2. People in our team (random people) have already done many or finished their matches. And so, they're on tilt. I'd say wait because that's what I'm going to do. Everyone's rushing (especially the people who can't really play) to finish their placement matches and you probably want serious people on your team.
