Poll: Do you think "toxicity" in League as increased or decreased since season 3?

In terms of things like verbal abuse as well as toxic gameplay behavior like trolling. Just trying to see how this small sample size of League players view the game.

Edit: Current results 44.45% think the level of toxicity overall has increased. 15.74% think the level of verbal toxicity has increased, but not gameplay toxicity. 11.11% think the level of gameplay toxicity has increased, but not verbal toxicity. 28.70% think that the level of toxicity has not increased. This includes players that think it has decreased, as well as players that think it has held steady or that chat usage has just decreased heavily.

I think, overall, that it has - at worst - held steady. I feel like there's been some improvement, but I must recognize that may simply be wishful thinking.

I think the question is wrong.

What changes I observed:

People use chat less, if at all.
/all chat is pretty much dead. Used by mistake at best.
Negative attitude in chat haven't decreased. Changed to be less vulgar? Yes, but that's about it.

PS. Trolling? Why would it change? Riot haven't done anything about it.

Definitely decreased since season 2 tho..... Season 2 one person does bad.......

From anecdotal accounts from people who were around before Tribunal was originally rolled out -- it made a huge impact on the number of gratuitously abusive players. Basically, if you were the sort of player who got reported in every other game you played because you started screaming racial slurs in chat, you got banned very quickly. Tribunal had a crazy high punish rate when it first came out, which decreased over time as the really terrible players either started to shape up or got permanent bans.

You'd have to define "toxic gameplay behavior" and "trolling" better for your other questions to have any meaning. I rarely see anyone who I would classify as legitimately griefing (intentional feeding, straight-up rage quits, etc.). Although I don't play much Ranked, so maybe it's worse there. Yeah, you get people who are uncooperative or make bad gameplay decisions sometimes, but that's not really "trolling" so much as "playing bad".

Riot's behavior systems are quite good at picking out players who are consistently being jerks. Most of the negative behavior you see from players these days is someone who's normally fine but having a bad game or bad day. Riot can't psychically predict who's going to get stuffed in their locker at school (or get yelled at by their boss at work, or have a fight with their SO, or whatever) and take it out on a bunch of random League players.

As someone that's played since before seasons existed long term it's gotten much much worse, as far as s3-s5 though I don't think it's gotten worse. I mean can it?

I guess it was about a little over a year ago I was ready to quit because it had gotten so bad. Ragers in almost every single game I played. I don't think it had really gotten much worse since I had started near the end of season 1 but I think I just got sick of dealing with it. So I went from playing tons of games every day to not even playing every day in a pretty short period of time. I cant remember if this was right before the tribunal went down or right after, but it was right around the same time. After a few months of barely playing, maybe only a game or 2 a week, I started to notice that there were less and less ragers. So I started playing more and more again. Now I almost never see any and the ones I do are usually mild. My reports are filed more to hope for chat restrictions rather than perma bans. I also suspect many of them are already chat restricted because they usually aren't saying much.

I never had an issue with intentional feeders, afks, or trolls though. I do see afks on occasion but that's to be expected. Ive only seen like 1 intentional feeder ever and only a couple of trolls.

So I would say that I have seen toxicity drastically decrease since season 3.

Absolutely it has gone up. Because the new ban system rolls out chat restrictions like they're going out of style, but trolls can still feed for hundreds of games and still not get banned. Of course the community has picked up on it, and I have yet to play one single game in months where one person hasn't been toxic. Literally, every single match I've played one person, whether on my team or the enemy's has been toxic.

Honestly, i can't tell if it has just gotten less bad or if I have gotten numb to it.. Season 3 was much worse imo.

Both.

On one hand, Riot implemented more manual/automatic systems to punish toxicity, such as: tribunal (will be back soon^TM), chat restrictions, the new insta-punish system, etc.).

On the other hand, League of Legends' popularity has been basically increasing more and more every year/season and the game's population increases as well, so naturally the more players there are, the more toxic players there are that are among them.

We can't actually make a definite statement if they general toxicity in League of Legends has increased/decreased, but I believe if we'd ask a Rioteer who works at the Player Behavior dept. (for example Riot Lyte) he/she would say overall toxicity has been decreased since season 3.

Am I the only one in the entirety of league that isn't plagued by terrible trolls in my games? I feel like people exaggerate a ton. The worst I get in my games are verbal abusers.

I think it's increased overall and I voted for it, however I will say that even though I think it has increased, I don't think it's by a large amount.

It obviously hasn't stayed the same or decreased, otherwise the Tribunal and the punishment system wouldn't currently be going through an overhaul.

toxicity is already extremely rare as is. It's like 2/100 people. It's really not that bad.

The reason my input would be biased is - I have significantly risen in elo since Season 3, where I was Bronze/Silver, and I'm now in Diamond. From my experience, people in higher elos tend to rage a lot more than lower elos, but they troll (intentionally feed/afk) much less often because they actually care about the victory a lot more. There are still some trolls, but not as many.
