How long have west coast players said, "Deal with it, it isn't that bad"? Now I see a bunch of west coast threads complaining about how the new server location is "unfair".

Wish my ping was constantly 90-100. Is more like jumping between 90 and 120 depending on if I did the right prayer to the internet gods that game, then back to 120 if I forget it or didn't do my chant right.

But seriously, only time I have gotten as low as 50 was when I make a LAN accounts and I was blown away.

I'd be happy with just 80 or 90 consistently after all these years.

Well if the server tests are any indication the problem is just going from one side to the another. I had a game that was connected to the new servers this morning, and while ping started at 89 (which is meh but honestly still fine) it quickly spiked up to 124 and sat there. The whole game. That's worse than some East Coat ping.

So, how long is it going to take Riot to figure out that one server location isn't going to work for NA no matter where you put it?

That sounds like an ISP issue added onto normal East Coast crap.

Then again I may be facing the same problem, as (somehow) Riot hasn't partnered with AT&T yet.

A lot of people on the west coast (especially anyone in Hawaii and Alaska) are actually jumping to 120-150. I think west coast is averaging 70-90. I dunno, I just wish they'd put up multiple servers. Also sucks if you're like me, and you're trying to play from Japan/Korea, and now it's going from ~120 to 200-250.

They probably use the current NA servers (it's only like 120 ping playing from Japan to CA, but it's going to be like 200+ if it's in Chicago) Japan has no server atm. Riot has said one is in the works, but nothing has come of it yet. You can go ahead and look, there's nothing lol.

Well, what many on the west coast are realizing, and what this move is making clear, is that they also have bad Internet. It wasn't an issue before, because they were getting 40-50 ping (when they should've been getting 20.)

Now they're going to see just how hard it is to "get better internet." In many areas, it's just not possible.

It is different for pros because they moved to california specifically so they could get better latency and be closer to LCS latency and play and learn and train on that reaction time. Now they are either going to have to completely pack up and move to chicago to get that same latency and then fly out to LA weekly to play or they are going to have to play at higher ping and further from what the competitive ping is and they are going to have to constantly adjust which can be jarring.

75 ping actually does affect pros though, especially on mechanically intensive champions. In Korea, pros say that >30 is unplayable, b/c it actually matters against highly skilled opponents. The hissy fits faker has had over 19 ping XD.

California peeps aren't going to be getting 70 if my time with the new server is any indication. Northern AZ here and my ping went from 65 to 104. Most Cali folks can easily expect 120+

Wait what? That dosen't even make sense unless the internet is just weaker out there, which im 99% sure it isn't. When people were on the east coast and had top of the line internet, they could get 100 ping (maybe) all the way across the country. So how is someone now who dosen't have to cover as much ground going to get significantly more ping?

Internet infastructure in the mountain states is even more of a joke than it is in the US as a whole. Here in Arizona, you've got a pretty good IP if you can get your ping to Riot's Portland server below 55 MS. To the Chicago server, you're looking at 90 MS minimum. And if you're internet provider isn't one of the good ones, you can expect 65+ to Portland and 102+ to Chicago. I'm a Diamond Yasuo main, and I'm going to get 100+ ping, I'm just going to quit playing this game because you literally cannot play Yasuo at a high diamond level with that high of ping.

It's great that tons of people are going to get amazing ping now but I basically spent hundreds of dollars on a game just to have it changed to a state I find unacceptable. Everyone out east spent money on this game knowing what there ping was and knowing that it wasn't likely to change any time soon. I know have 7600 RP that I'm probably just going to give away now.

Already said it once, but I'll say it to you directly. The majority of the US and Canadian population is on the East Coast.

I've tried to explain to people so many times, just because Riot is on the West Coast, doesn't mean the majority of the population is. The majority of the US population AND the League of Legends player base population is actually on the East Coast.

The Larger population of Canada also is more towards the East and the West, so it's been a bit silly that the East Coast of NA has been waved off for so long. Neither coast should have been or should be ignored, but realistically, the vast majority are on the East Coast not the West Coast.

Chicago is basically on the East Coast. In order for the Ping to be equally distributed across the US and Canada, they'd have had to put their server farm in Nebraska or South Dakota. I get why they didn't, but putting it in Chicago essentially swaps the ping issues from one side of the continent to the other.

Ping times have nothing to do with the speed of your internet. It's based on the distance the packet has to travel and the number of routers you have to go through. It does get worse if your packet has to be handed off between service provider backbones.

Also, no. They didn't flip flop the ping issue at all. First off, there are a lot more people on the East, so a bigger portion of the playing community will have better ping. Second, the new location will be a hell of a lot closer to the west coast than the old one was to the east coast. Also, they have improved their infrastructure so that you won't be getting anywhere near as bad ping and packet loss as the east coast used to.

Uh, you obviously have no idea what you're talking about. I'm pretty sure sprint has great download speeds, as long as you're under their one tower. Ping = download speed. The fact that you think there is any correlation between the two is, quite frankly, assnine. They haven't even switched over the servers yet, so if you have 90 ping in Cali, you actually just have a shitty 3rd world internet provider. You are either very unintelligent or trolling. You must not know how ping works then if you think it's "hilarious."

Ping, in a way, can be felt a lot like fps. Sit at a constant 60 and it's fine. Drop from 60 to 50 constantly and you can tell. It's jarring. It isn't fun.

Now consider playing in a high stakes match, with potentially millions of dollars on the line, with your ping constantly jumping from 10 - 45. This is the equivalent of the FPS dropping from 60 - 30. Over. And over. And over. Sure, it doesn't matter if it's solo Q, but when you are in a studio match it shouldn't be happening.

It's not fun. It's not okay, and with all the talks of "competitive integrity" I'm surprised the server move is even going through. A better, and simpler fix, is to just setup two separate servers. One east coast, one west coast. Not completely shaft either the East or the West.

When will there ever be millions of dollars on the line? The LCS games are on LAN connection so the ping there will always be consistently low, and I don't think any game from home is gonna be a million dollar game.

The thing that frustrates me the most is that for much of the Eastern US, if you really, really want to play with good ping, you can play on LAN. I don't have that option on the western side of the US. I can either play with 100+ ping or not play at all. Great for everyone who benefits from the server move but I am deeply unsettled by just how ok most of you are with the western states and Canada being screwed because Riot refuses to run 2 servers.

That's because people were literally saying they were held back skill wise from ping lol. All of sudden people on the east coast are saying 80 ping is playable and people on west coast should stop complaining yet were the ones crying for a change lol.

People were just showing a correlation between ping and average rank. Many factors go into that. Also, 80 ping is very playable. The 80 ping players weren't the ones complaining. The people that were complaining were the ones with 120 ping. And even most of them were fine if they got a consistent 120 ping. The problem was 120 ping with constant packet loss and regular spikes to up over 1,000.
