When I first saw the boards all I could think of was that it would just turn into a bunch of circle-jerking with how one topic could be brought up over and over and recieve lots of upvotes if it agreed with the majority opinion of the time, and godam I was right. Look at how many Cass threads have spawned and always recieve massive upvotes even if another one with the exact same point is right next to it. I do agree that the Cass rework was garbage but it just showed the flaws of this system, which is mass upvotes of the popular opinion of the time while the mass down voting of anyone who says otherwise.

What these boards do is discourage the creation of threads that disagree with the current popular opinion since any thread like that will recieve mass downvotes without a second glance no matter their validity. The boards have become a hive mind where anyone who disagrees with the popular decision getting rejected without a second thought.

People tend to dislike change at first, regardless of how good it is.

Your point?

BOARDS SUCK

I still don't like the boards.

It's difficult to keep a thread up without a ridiculous amount of up-votes, so it only gets a small pool of ≈30 people (if you're lucky).

Circle jerk threads are continuously made, but unless they have genuine logic and reasoning they immediately fall off the map, so I can live with that.

I wish there was an ignore feature or something like that.

upvote/downvote meta is just so people can feel like they make a difference in the world. i think i've only upvoted 3 things on reddit and never downvoted. i just don't understand it. if something is popular it will get a lot of replies and stay at the top of the boards until it's no longer popular. if something is not popular it will fade away quickly, what's the point of voting?

While I don't think they're too bad, they're hard to understand if you're on mobile. It's impossible to tell who is replying to who, because all you see is a straight line of posts. I didn't know how the reply layout looked like until I used boards on my computer. It's been quite misleading when I'm viewing topics.

Agreed. The post quality has dropped significantly since the change as well as the diversity of controversial subjects regarding a topic. My own posting has dropped significantly and isnt going to change anytime soon. Judging by the up votes of the hot topics today the amount of posters has also decreased as well.

To be fair, that post was also really old, when Boards didn't even look like this (it was called the commuity beta, back then).

To be fair, my post about the boards sucking is pretty highly rated too, but a lot of these highly upvoted posts are from back when the boards WERE abysmal. They're still not great, but they're nowhere NEAR the atrocity they were when those posts were made.
