How is removing an easily recognizable color coding increasing clarity?
"_Colored ping bars can be pretty arbitrary to the average player, as there's no accepted 'standard' of what someone should do when they see yellow - or red - bars instead of green. We're making a simple change so there's more clarity around what a player's connection speed is to the game server so they can derive meaningful information from that. This is a long piece of context to say we want to show you real information, not colors.
COLORBLIND: The colored ping bar (Red/Yellow/Green) has been removed, and now displays your actual ping instead_."
- from the new patch notes 5.19
This makes literally no sense to me. Color coding is an easy way to take in vital information at a glance. Pretty much everyone around the world knows the standard color coding; green - good, yellow - not great, red - bad. How does removing this grant clarity?
The stupidest part is we already had the option to turn on the numbers if you really need to know the specifics of your ping, so it makes no sense to me to fully remove the color coding. It's just easier.
