PSA: Your Snowdown Shop's Offers

There seem to be a lot of people with expectations of what the personalized sales offers are. There've been a lot of people claiming that the champions you play the most have the highest chance of showing up in the store (reddit, in game, stream chat). That's not necessarily the case, as the criteria for personalized offers are more extensive than that.

the Snowdown shop will feature six unique champions or skins (excluding Legendary, Ultimate, and Limited) released more than three months ago) based on your playstyle. It's based on a ton of different factors, but playstyle is the best way to describe it. I think it'll make a bit more sense once you see the shop for yourself.

As stated by Riot, the deals are based heavily on playstyle. Likely factors include champion type, lane, and role. They might also check data for previous skin theme purchases, or what types of champions you skin the most. The goal for this promotion is obviously to get people to spend some RP (and thus money), but merely focusing on your main champions would be very shortsighted. After all, pigeonholing you to your existing pool limits purchase options. By offering you champions (and skins) similar to your existing playstyle, they are encouraging you to branch out to possibly unfamiliar champions that you statistically may enjoy. Having more champions unlocked also creates more future sales potential for them since each champion has its own pool of alternate skins.

To those people claiming that being offered skins for champions they don't currently play is an example of coding error: It's not. That isn't spaghetti code. That's marketing. There may have been coding errors responsible for the shop's delay, but that's a different issue.

To add onto this, feedback is always welcome. This is the first time we're doing something like this!

In my personalized shop, I had gotten 3 Riven skins, and 1 skin each for Azir ,DrMundo , andFiora . Now I play mostly jungle and the only jungler in that list is mundo. I feel like the whole play style selection process needs to be improved if you guys want to do it again. Not offering 3 skins for 1 champion would also be nice too, cause who wants to buy 3 skins for 1 champion all at once.

I was wondering if Riot was going to do anything for the people who got Challenger Ahri in their shop. Because you can't actually buy here, you pretty much lose a spot in your shop. like having 5 spots instead of 6.

Looks like Rito tried to sucker me in with some skins they know I like and then tacked on some others at the end, crafty devils.

Or in other words, a couple of medium discounts for my high mastery champs, then a couple of large discounts for champs I own but rarely play, then a small discount on a champ with similar style to my high mastery but I don't own.

Ok, but I'm a Support main and primarily play Mages and Tanks. I play way, way more ARAM than I do Summoner's Rift, though, so maybe that's how this happened:

I'm actually pretty disappointed. My champions/skins are kindof all over the place - only two are Supports, and they're in the lower discount brackets. I have no idea how Yi ended up anywhere on my page, but getting two skins for him just completely killed this event for me. http://puu.sh/lYrrt/b2cd7311d4.jpg

Mine sucks, but that's probably because I tend to buy the skins I like for champions already.

Secret Agent MF (already own Arcade, Captain, and several others) Sherrif Caitlyn (already own Officer and Headhunter) GAREN (DISGUSTING. I'VE NEVER WANTED TO OWN GAREN) Panda Annie (which is probably the best offer, but only 20% off :c) Redeemed Riven (another good offer, but I like Arcade and I got that Dragon one from a mystery skin a few weeks ago) FIZZ (Also disgusting, can't stand him)

All the way salty on this shop thing, i was so excited then i got 3 fiddlesticks and ive played him maybe 6 times. I only bought one (a tristana) because it was 230rp. All around just bad for the snow shop first time, as big as you guys are just seems like things would of been organized way better. Would be cool in the future if you don't like something you could wait a week or 2 and then it rotates. But i love the concept and offering discounts on the skins that's a great idea, i'd just like a champ I play or don't already have 20skins by them lol

I only play Taric but I own Ezreal despite never playing him. My Snowdown skin shop has offered me 2 Lux skins, 1 Ashe skin, 1 Varus skin, 1 Wukong Skin and 1 Master Yi skin. You're making it increasingly difficult for me to spend my 400 RP...

I didn't buy a single one of my discounted skins. I had the money, but the system offered skins for champions that I either don't play, already have a better skin for, offered ugly skins, multiple skins for the same champion, or the magnitude of the discount did not warrant a purchase.

  1. This one is easy to fix. Only offer skins for champions that have been played in the last two months or so. This point is far more important than the next three, since fixing those and not this would result in good skins with good offers that I would be pained to purchase since I would know it was a waste of money buying a skin for champions I don't like or play.

  2. Also easy to fix, only offer skins that have a HIGHER base price than the skins I already own for that champion. For example, if I own Prestigious Leblanc (750), do not offer me Wicked Leblanc (520), but instead Ravenborn Leblanc (1350) - a skin I would actually have any chance of purchasing.

  3. This issue is difficult to satisfy, since every skin appeals to at least someone. I don't know how effective this would be, but look at colour schemes and common themes between the skins that the player has already purchased (not including gifts or mystery chests). This could help find out the players preferred skin style.

  4. Riot should know that offering multiple skins for the same champion will result in less purchases than skins for two different champions. It's just a fact that there are people who see it as a waste to own more than one skin on a champion. Just don't do this.

  5. Almost every skin in the game will eventually be on sale, usually at a larger discount than those offered in the snowdown shop. This means that buying the snowdown discounted skins results in spending more money than necessary. My solution would be to only offer discounts of 50% or HIGHER. Riot can almost raise the discounts indefinitely and still profit.

Hey, everyone!

Wanted to pop in and thank everyone who's taken the time to leave feedback about Your Snowdown Shop! This is our first go at something like this, so it's great to see what you think - what you like and don't like - as well as seeing what you personally received v. what you thought you'd get/were hoping for.

If you haven't left feedback and are reading this now, absolutely feel free to do so! ^-^

Thanks again, guys! :D

All i want is more than 1 deal. 3 would have been awesome T_T

I don't know if this is supposed to happen, but all six skins in my personal shop are for champions I don't even own, even for champions I have never played before (not even in free rotation).

Would like to see next time a bigger variety in the skins available. What I mean is that I saw a number of screenshots that showed 2 or more skins being offered just for a single champion. I know the number of champs in the account could affect this, but still. I'd also say price-wise should also be varied up. my personal one was filled with 975 rp skins and below, not a single 1350 skin appeared.

One of my sales was 50% off Recon Teemo, but the day I received it was the same day that Recon Teemo was 50% off for everyone in League of Legends, so it felt like I had one less real sale. I also owned several skins for champions I received skins for, so maybe a suggestion would be to give skins for champions that we don't own multiple skins for already.

Kritty12/26/2015, 1:22:05 AM1 votes

I have to agree with the sentiment of 1 skin per champion in the shop. I personally got 2 different Annie skins in the shop (Panda and Frostfire at 40% off each), and had no desire for either one, and 2 Leona skins (Pool Party, which I bought at 70% off, and Defender, at 20% off).

Another potential improvement might be to give players 1 re-roll of their shop - but only the amount of deals that HAVEN'T been used. That way, you don't get players buying all of the first group then re-rolling for a new group. With a re-roll, it would allow players to get a chance at skins they might be interested in, while still only giving them a maximum of 6 deals.

Anyway, thanks for reading these posts, Katey.
