Riot now punishing players for having hardware & connection issues?

Does the LoL client know the difference between an:

  • End process
  • BSOD
  • Power plug
  • DDoS
  • ISP connectivity
  • Or client crash?

If the answer is no to anyone one of those things then the 'LeaverBuster' system is not fit for duty, it will punish innocent players for things out of their control who even had no maligned intent what so ever, possibly lost their game and now getting punished for it? I usually stand behind Lyte and gave the behavior team the benefit of the doubt when they didn't elaborate on what 'genuine reform' meant but...

It takes a while to get a real punishment from leaving, so by the time you get more than a short time out from queue you know you have a problem and should be fixing it.

The thing about the Leavebuster system is leaving a game every once in a while won't get you even noticed by the system, you have to leave several, the system has a safety net because it knows sometimes irl happens, however, when you leave games over and over and over, your own fault after a while, especially if you know you have ISP or CPU problems.

The problem is that you can't have a system differentiate between leaving willingly and being forced to quit due to circumstances out of the player's control. Not without leaving it open to abuse at least.

Your ignorance of technology is showing.

Power Cord, Client Crash, End Process, BSOD all look the exact same to a piece of software that's running. It died. It had no warning, and there was nothing it could do to look into the issue, much less report it. The only exception to this would be a Client Crash, which could theoretically have been coded better to handle exceptions, but that assumes that the issue was inside League itself and not some driver issue on your computer.

DDoS on a client, or ISP connectivity going out look the exact same as me unplugging my router, or unplugging a wireless dongle, or turning off the wifi on a laptop. All the client and server know is that they're no longer talking to each other, they don't know why.

What Riot does is certainly fair enough for anyone who doesn't intentionally AFK. The problem people run into is when they AFK for other reasons or don't stop playing to figure out their problems. Leaver Buster is the best solution that doesn't involve you installing League of Legends as an operating system.
