@Riot: A question about interactions between Bard portals, knockback, and player terrain.

So one of Bard's abilities is to create a one-way portal through terrain for both allies and enemies to use. This is a super neat ability, I'm sure GLaDOS is proud, but I have a question about them.

For example, if Bard places a portal from inside Dragon pit to the other side of the wall, and then a Vayne Condemns an enemy into your portal what happens? Are they shoved through the portal and stuck on the other end? Are they stunned as if the portal wasn't there? Are they pushed through the portal AND stunned? Same question with all other knockback abilities. Also, on a side note, are enemies/allies invulnerable while travelling through a wall via portal, or can abilities still hit them?

Also, what happens if a Bard creates a portal on one end, and an enemy Anivia or Azir on the other end places their wall completely blocking the exit? Do people get stuck in the wall? Is the portal disabled? Does the universe implode in on itself?

And most importantly, what happens if Bard uses his portal on the edge of the map? CAN CHAMPIONS ESCAPE AND ATTACK OUR WORLD??!

In gameplay terms the portal doesn't remove terrain or create a hole in it, but instead creates an area you can choose to click on to be transported through the terrain. Being knocked into a wall a portal's on functions just like being knocked into any normal wall as a result.

Enemies are still targetable and vulnerable while taking a Magical Journey.

An Anivia wall up against an exit portal could lock an enemy against terrain for a while, in the same way that you can use an Anivia wall to lock someone against terrain they've just dashed across.

Bard cannot, alas, create portals through the walls on the side of the map, fun though allowing people to fall to their deaths on Howling Abyss would otherwise be.

Was it considered to have the portal open up on the other side of the map when using it on the edge of the map? I realize it's probably not programmed in a way to wormhole like that but it would be awesome.

that might be fun when you make portal at the bot lane brush and suddenly come out in top lane... like a wormhole... or maybe hilarious too if you built in your base and suddenly... executed... (you might know what I mean)

Thanks so much for the response, I'm excited about this new champion and his release skin looks awesome too. I must admit I'm a bit disappointed that you can't force movement through the portals (the plays would be amazing to watch/perform), but I'm still very interested in the Bard. If I'm fortunate to get a second response, do enemies travel through the portal at the same speed as allies?

Allies go through Bard portals faster than enemies do.

Allies go faster than enemies...

maybe Allies get movement speed boost when inside the portal??? or Enemies get slowed when inside portal??? or maybe... both??? (Allies get movement speed when inside portal while Enemies get slowed inside portal)

Is the portal's Travel distance Capped?

if Not, what stops it from being abused on Howling Abyss (putting the entrance at the corner of the bridge and ur base, and have it go to the enemy's corner)

Woah, I have to know this now, that could be insane....

I believe there are those indents about halfway through the Abyss right? So they would have to stop there assuming you could get the perfect angle for it.

so the portal usage is literally similar to Thresh lantern??? (right-click) or just left-click instead like targeted unit???

Does that mean the portals are useless on HA?

If they remain targetable and vulnerable what are the Thresh/Blitz interactions here? Do they miss, interrupt or what? Can I land a hook IN a wall and just follow them along the path?

I'm curious about that too.

Why not make it a one-way hole? It would allow some counterplay against Jarvan/Anivia/Trundle+Gnar/Vayne/Poppy combos.

The Ecdysiast1 votes

Like: Jarvan ults, Gnar throws but your Bard has flawless timing so Gnar actually threw one of you to the other side without you having to flash.

Meddler what about Skarner ulti?

I feel like it could be really cool and flavorful if being nailed by his Q to a wall with a portal sucks you into the portal. Potentially too strong (although from trying him on PBE, hard to pull off), but it seems like it would be a very natural and interesting ability interaction.
