Dear Riot (Please Read)
Dear Riot Staff,
I have been a player of League of Legends for many years, and I have thoroughly enjoyed playing this year most of all due to the new champion's that you have introduced and the upkeep on the updates to change the flavor of the month every so often keeping things fresh. Sadly, I can no longer say this with a straight face. This is not to bash you, but as someone who dearly enjoys the competition, teamwork, and mechanics that you have put into one game, I now find myself wanting to completely give up on League of Legends.
The start of this year was very strong, with the beginning of the tank meta. I enjoyed those fights that could last upwards of 30 seconds, using skill to outsmart my opponent and earn a victory in my fights. Then the introduction of Bard was a lot of fun as every one was playing a very complex champion for the first time and the diversity of gameplay because of this was astounding. A solid 5 months or so, you did a great job... then, you began to fall off. First thing that I found upsetting was the introduction of a new system, automatically banning players for "toxicity" that was extremely easy to abuse, players who do talk trash don't need a ban, this is the internet and this is also a very competitive game, its half the fun to just let loose and poke fun, as long as that person doesn't overstep things. The next thing that really upset me was learning about another rule from a good friend of mine, who has been playing League Of Legends since Season 2. He went out to visit a friend of his, and played League of Legends with him, only 1 or 2 ranked games, but because he won a single game on a different IP address, he got an email a few months later, telling him he was banned from League of Legends for 2 weeks, would have his rank and season rewards taken away from him, and he would no longer be allowed in ranked for the rest of the season... After contacting support over the phone they told him exactly this.... "You shouldn't have played on another IP address, let us know next time beforehand." Just listening to what was being said on the phone, and the reasoning behind this, it really upset me, more so than it did my friend. He has now all but given up on League Of Legends, and doesn't even play anymore.
As a fan, I forced myself to slog through these terrible things that have been done to a great game, and now it is September 8th, and I can't continue. The things that once made this game amazing and special, are quickly dwindling. There is no longer diversity in each match, as I am now seeing the exact same line-up of champions as the previous match, people hardly dare to whisper in chat in fear of getting banned for some random purpose, the update's no longer keep the overtuned champion's in check and they continue to wreck the game. There are more trolls now that purposefully throw the game because they won't even get a slap on the wrists as long as they don't say anything in chat. The other problem with the updates are the reworks, trying to give every champion a mini-game may seem like a great idea, but its not enjoyable like catching Axes with Draven, and making a single champion (Mordekaiser) into an adc where he continually stomps the lane due to his massive damage and natural tankyness.
Riot, there are a few things that you need to do before you end up just like all the other companies out there, not listening to the player base, and only taking their money greedily will ruin League Of Legends. Yes, bringing back the tribunal is tough work, but its much more fair and doesn't get abused, and treating your players like they are kindergarteners is quite insulting to be honest. Allow people to poke fun and talk trash to a certain extent, those who go overboard with threats and such deserve the ban, but not those who are just relaxing and enjoying themselves in a competitive game on the internet. Stop with the mini-games on the reworks, they shouldn't be given out like candy, they should be deserved for the least played champions, that way it can bolster their popularity and the diversity of gameplay will be back to being perfect. Also, making the champion's have new uses like you did with Mordekaiser was a great idea, but it was poorly executed in my opinion, you should have made it so at least 3 champions were reworked and put down there, that way it would have been a bit more balanced instead of just Mordekaiser wrecking the bot lane. Next, this is something that must be taken care of before it gets worse, ban the people who troll by intentionally feeding or throwing the game. You could make is simple and change the automated bans for chat and turn that system into one that checks match history after being reported for the offense. The final thing I'd love to see, would be if Riot would not only focus on competitive play, but also take care of the average players with its reworks, updates, and etc.
With just little things like this, League Of Legends could pull itself back up to being one of the best games, but if these issues continue to grow, the game will not be what is once was and that would be a massive shame. If any Riot Employee's read this, please post below your personal opinion on things, not as an employee but as a player. Same with my fellow players, post below your opinions on what simple things could be done to improve League Of Legends to keep it alive.
