So let me get this straight... Its a female Champion... A Monster... Not Anthropomorphic... No pinup Girl mode... No Fanservice...

While I would agree if she had anything at all that identified her as female, there is literally nothing that says she is female. She, for all intents and purposes, is an "It" that is being called female for the sake of having said they have fulled the "Female monster (for real this time guys!)" niche. I'd give her some very limited VO language, just enough to suggest she knows language. And still just prefer to scream your face off.

And that's perfectly normal. What should she have to "identify her as female"? Why does a female champ need something to "identify her as female" while a male champ does not need something to "identify him as male"?

It's perfectly fine to have a champ that "could have been male or female, it would have worked perfectly with both, and she just happens to be female" ^_^

That honestly should have been the case for most monster champs, but literally every other monster can speak and has a distinctly gendered voice. All the male monsters have deep, grumbly voices (Kog is the arguable exception), while Anivia's voice would've fit just fine on Janna. Then Rek comes along looking like a Skarner skin, and she sounds... deep and grumbly but without speech. Without a precedent, it feels downright bizarre.

Yes. All the other monster champs have recognizable male voices, except for Anivia who has a recognizably female voice.

That works on Vel'Koz quite well, and it definitely works on the more humanoid monsters like Rengar and Nocturne. However, when I look at Cho'Gath I don't see "someone who can speak intelligibly and whose gender is readily apparent when that speech occurs". However, this is the direction Riot chose at that time.

Still, I think your overall point is that a diversity of monster characters is valuable, and with that I can readily agree. I very much empathize with the appreciation of non-humans.

Sigh There always has to be SOMETHING. Can't just be happy with what there is and the fact that it's everything the community has asked for... nope. Now the huge horrific monster has to somehow identify as female because RIOT FORBID we be unable to look at something and think "that has something resembling a vagina."

The default skin shouldn't have anything that identifies it as female. It's completely unimportant, anymore that Cho'Gath identifies as male which from an objective point of view isn't cut and dry either.

What Riot could do (and I think they totally SHOULD) is they'll just do what they did with Cho'Gath... they'll have a "Victorian Lady Rek'Sai" skin which would be freaking amazing.

Last female champions Kalista Jinx Lissandra Quinn They aren't ugly but they aren't poster girl champions. I'm pretty sure Riots gotten a bit scared to release a champion that's actually a 10/10 anymore due to the lash back.

I think that Jinx', Lissandra's and Kalista's designs were still made to appeal to male audience. Why does jinx have that "bra"? If Kalista once was a proud warrior and commander, why does she wear no armor, and has no decent protection on her arms and legs? Why does lissandra have a cleavage?

Quinn is a good example: her outfit suit the champion's concept, what she does, it's a light, practical armor best suited for a scout/explorer.

Kalista DOES wear armour. It completely covers her torso so as not to leave any vitals exposed, as it should. It leaves her limbs exposed though because she needs free range of motion for her limbs, since she's a slippery, hyper mobile character and not a tank on legs. It's actually very similar to what you'd expect to see on an old roman centurion. It's also ancient, decrepit, and falling apart, as you'd expect on an undead character.

You're right that Quinn's armour is perfect for a scout/explorer, but not every champ is a scout or explorer and different characters have different needs. And while this is problematic on some older champs who's clothing does not appropriate meet their needs, Kalista is not in this category.

I remember when Riot released Zyra, Nami, Syndra and Elise one after another. People got so sick of them and it gave me a bit of hope in humanity's tastes. Frankly, when someone asks for more sexy female champions...just buy skins or play any of a dozen sexy champions, you poor deprived beings. Seductress is the most popular LoL archetype they've been beating to death since the start of this game. Sorry that you feel that you're denied something when the last FOUR female champions don't fit that mold.

They're all pretty women though. Sure, Kalista is a ghost, Liss is...something, Jinx is flat and Quinn is covered up...But they're all beautiful. Heck, Lissandra has cleavage and Jinx is half-naked. You can't tell me that wasn't done for fanservice, they're aware that they have attractive characters and they'd be attractive with less clothes on as well. Don't get me wrong, I'm thankful for what Riot is doing now and I wouldn't expect them to suddenly start truly treating females the same as males. They're a video game company after all, with a mostly young male fanbase. They are going to cater to them and view females from a male point of view, and I'm okay with that. But the fact does remain that these new females (what little of them we got recently, just 4 with a whole strip-club following them?) are all very nice to look at, it's just that they're covered. Rek'Sai is really the only one who is not. Well, she is, but not in that way.

And as you mentioned, we got a ton of poster girl skins as well.

You have to set up for it pretty well though. You'll need to set up tunnels properly, and it looks like tunnels can be destroyed by stepping on them, like with Zyra's seeds.

What's the cd on her tunnel-placing ability? 10 min seems like a really long time to me. Do Teemo's shrooms even last that long?

About 20-18 second cooldown for the ability. 10 minutes is how long each tunnel lasts, unless the enemy destroys it by standing on it for [1.5 seconds atm]. There also seems to be roughly a 10 second cooldown for when she can use each tunnel. She can have up to 8 tunnels at a time before (I assume) they start overwriting the oldest tunnel

It actually doesn't seem too much like a global gap closer because your opponents know where your tunnels are, and Rek'Sai needs to set up the tunnels first.

Also, Sion's ultimate will always be special, either for the long-range initiation potential (Rek'Sai's ultimate doesn't seem like that good of an initiation tool) or the hilarious ult fails you get with him.

I was just about to make this thread. I LOVE her style! Riot did so much right here. Plus, a fifth champ from the void means all void team is possible.

I am curious though...what makes a Champ like Rek'Sai acceptable and Omen bad. She breaks every rule that made them throw omen out. I'd love to hear some designer's perspective on the subject.

They addressed this in GD some time ago (pre-Season 3 maybe?). When they scrapped Omen, they were trying to make more generic and easily accessible/relate-able champions. Now that they've exceed the 100 mark, almost all the generic concepts are in play. So they can afford to persue more niche concepts and play styles.

A few things. They've said that Omen's theme was never very strong or well-fleshed out before, whereas Rek'Sai looks like she has a very solid and well defined theme going on. And as for a monster champ who doesn't speak... I'm pretty sure I just read them say a few months ago that they used to think this was a bad idea but have since just straight up changed their mind, which is a thing people do sometimes.

I was blown away by her ulti, though I think maybe a decrease in how fast it is, idk. We'll see when we can play her!

They aren't health bars, they are timers. You can only travel after 8(?) seconds after using it or casting it.

they stay for 10 minutes. They can be destroyed by enemy champions. They have health bars. So her ult is not as grossly OP as I thought...

They are timers to show when you can travel again, and go to empty when you use one. they don't need health bars because they are destroyed by walking on them.

My only complaint is because she's the ONLY void monster that doesn't talk, it makes her feel out of place. And, if you wanna read way too deep into things, you could probably make a comment about how the woman void champ is the only one not allowed to talk or something.

Not complaining, I'm happy to get a monster champ that doesn't speak, but you gotta admit it feels at least a little bit off.

That ult scream though... Just amazing.

I'm kinda disappointed that she doesn't talk though, kinda wish she at least had a few words of dialogue somwhere in there so you can tell that she actually has intelligence and isn't just a mindless creature. Something like... at max fury, when she uses an ability, she'll say something like, "DIE!" or "FEED" or some such.

Her scream when she ults will likely be like the Sion gong, as for her tunnels they seem kinda easy to break for the enemy, if they find them. Makes me wonder how visible will they be, will they have a reduced detection range since they are just holes in the ground & riot did mention that she will be able to use them to counter jungle hard, or will they just be like Zyra seeds, something you use once before the enemy stomps it out. She seems like she'll be a big time power farmer with a Shyvanna kinda feel to her but less damage and more mobility (a LOT more)
