[Survey] Personality Type and Favorite Champion

Hello all! If you were frequenting the boards a month or two ago, you may remember the time when I asked for people's personality types and what their favorite champions are. As it turned out I wasn't the only one really curious on this and I got a lot of responses. Which is awesome! Except for the part where I couldn't analyze the results well simply because I didn't expect to have enough results to really draw anything from.

So here I am again, prepared this time, to see what happens. The only thing I need now is your all's help!

Take a personality test from this site: http://www.16personalities.com/free-personality-test (It's better to have everyone take the same test)

Fill out this survey: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/10uiEnixPqfHWpC6HGmghEQOOH18CWUuy4Q0h_MDSvnA/viewform (It's only 3 questions)

Watch the results here: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/10uiEnixPqfHWpC6HGmghEQOOH18CWUuy4Q0h_MDSvnA/viewanalytics?usp=form_confirm

This can be a very interesting set of results if enough people answer (and of course, answer honestly). So help me out! results will be shown this time next week with the responses thus far! ^_^

FAQ

Why only one champion?

My thinking is that it's easier to get insight of a preferred playstyle of a personality type of you're limited to "that single one". Allowing more choices will provide more variance, but at the same time inflate results (which in this situation is a good thing, as a high sample is required). I completely admit that allowing multiple choices may have been a better option, but I do have reasoning behind choosing the one.

So many introverts!

That's a sample bias. Right now I'm pulling off of r/leagueoflegends, vBulletin and the Boards for responses, which, by the nature of these medium's audiences will primarily be introverts. A lot of people have noticed the discrepancies between the given test's site's statistics and the ones here, and I assure you this survey's stats are the ones that are currently off. I will probably be revisiting with a validation survey of personality type stats within this subreddit.

Why are the results are so....messy?

It's all raw data right now. I'm planning on re-posting in a week with a trimmed and cleaned update for the results (as well as a call for more responses, never enough!).

What about Roles?!

I've gotten several requests for this already, so I will definitely be coming back around with a separate survey on this. I got burned before on having too many questions so I wanted to keep this one as simple as possible. I'll more than likely hand that survey out in this survey's update post next week (don't want to spam surveys after all!)

What's wrong with the percentages?

Currently the results for each answer are being shown against the entire voting population (all types), this was not intentional. So for now, just ignore the % numbers.

Edit 1: Forms should be unlocked now, sorry to those of you who tried in the first few minutes. Should be working now!

Edit 2: Due to the high number of data points in selecting a favorite champion a graph will not show up unless enough responses happen, so bear with it! Either way, all the responses are being recorded to a spreadsheet that I'll be able to work with later.

PotD and frontpage r/leagueoflegends......

So..many....responses......

Definitely need the option to pick more champions, with 3 seeming like a really good number. Choosing a preferred role would be nice, but it'd be nicer to see a preferred playstyle (zone control, burst damage, brawler, siege, split push, etc.).

Anyway, yeah, ENTP and I decided to go with Janna this time, though Heim and Karma called to me.

I feel like 2 choices when picking favorite champs would have been more useful. Many people will simply pick more popular and viable champions as their first pick as they are more accepted and favored on teams and asked for while their second pick would be more about their personality.

Where my fellow ENFP Leona players at?!

Out of curiosity, how many extroverts do you honestly think you'll get from a beta forum for a computer game?

RiotRiot Baconhawk9/22/2014, 7:56:26 PM3 votes

INTJ, Yasuo. :)

Hydrawolf9/23/2014, 4:36:27 PM2 votes

Personally, I think it would also be interesting to see what percentage of different personality types play certain champs as well, but I can deal.

Also, INFP and karma main.

ModUlanopo9/22/2014, 6:33:38 PM2 votes

That's an awful lot of INTJs.

I posted this on Reddit and happened to find this here so I thought I might put my input here as well. I have no real credentials on the subject, but the test used seemed to be lacking in my opinion. The amount of questions was cut down to reduce the amount of time you'd have to invest, but I feel that severely limited the test by having quite a few vauge, broad questions. There were a few questions that I found myself thinking "Well, I kind of agree with this statement if I think about it one way, but I would definitely disagree with it if I think about it another way." I decided to take this test three times with 10 minutes in between them, I got ISTJ, ISTJ, and INTJ, all because I answered the questions slightly different yet still true when pertaining to myself. It's not like there aren't more detailed versions of the MBTI available for free online, I'm curious whether you chose to go with the first thing they found or if they chose this because it took significantly less time.

For what it's worth, this test is the only one I've ever gotten something different than INTJ, and I've taken various forms of the MBTI for therapy, classes, and internet shits and giggles. That could just be a valid example for how these tests are never perfect and can't completely capture who you are.

ENTP, and my chosen "preferred Champion" is Caitlyn

You would think someone like Caitlyn, known for her long range and poke to stay safely away from danger, wouldn't be the Champion of choice for an extrovert, more specifically an ENTP, someone who thrives on arguments and confrontation for the sake of fun and excitement*. Even looking at the results this is true, as by far most ENTP's tend to gravitate towards the Champions that go FULLY in, such as LeeSin, Yasuo, and Zed.

You would think someone who tends to avoid confrontation would play someone safe and long-ranged like Caitlyn. The reason I prefer to play Caitlyn is not only because I just generally prefer the Marksmen role, but because I LOVE the harass she brings. I play her not as a safe ADC, but as a thorn in the enemy's side, one they just can't reach. I challenge them from afar, goading them to come closer, to get them to try and close the distance. If they can, they can have me, because they deserved it. If they can't, well, they're mine, and they'll have to try again.

I don't know, I'm thinking too far into this I think, but I do find this fascinating, why some personality types choose certain Champions based on their styles of gameplay.

*I DONT mean trolling in any way, we really only like to, as the site puts it, play "devil's advocate" so much to get other people thinking, even if what we're defending is wrong. If they can't defend their own points of view, even if they're right, they need to improve how they express and how they believe, and according to that site again with the descriptions, ENTP's are all about self-improvement. We care about the improvement of others as well. It's boring arguing with uneducated people.

ISFJ, and I <3 Sona. Very cool to sift through the results, what do you make of all this?

Pryotra9/23/2014, 7:56:55 PM1 votes

INTP - Heimerdinger.

Assertive variant

Was close between him and anivia, but I have always had a spot in my heart for the little engi.

For this survey there is just one problem .... popularity Popularity just ruin this survey giving bad results.

Edit: there is also a problem with the results this morning there was 9 Cassiopeia INTJ prefers (i was one of them) and now there are 0 prefers

INTP/Graves

seems to be the most common personality around the boards and reddit for some reason.

ManiacalCoin9/23/2014, 11:17:24 PM1 votes

INTP, Teemo (don't hate me please)

WOW. I cannot believe how spot on this survey was. I play a lot of thresh and I enjoy improvisation and have to say ENFP personality types was the highest for thresh. Wow. I enjoy making decisions in game and dictating play.

Whilst choosing an apparently unpopular champion for ISTJs, the most popular(Thresh) was my 2nd most played champ last season. Still remains my go-to support this season, but my main role changed to ADC.

TouchMyNautyBits9/24/2014, 1:53:22 AM1 votes

ENTP

Shaco the Demon Jester!

Possta9/24/2014, 3:41:58 AM1 votes

I noticed a lot of people with SJ like thresh, while a lot of people with IJ like high mobility, high damage carries like vayne, ahri, and riven.

Personally I'm ISFJ, Riven

I find it interesting that most INTP and INTJ prefer Assassins.

Maybe you should compile new surveys asking the following:

  1. Are you Introverted or Extroverted? Which role do you prefer? Assassin/Support/Tank/Mage/Fighter
  2. What is your personality type? Which role do you prefer? Assassin/Support/Tank/Mage/Fighter

You might get clearer results that way. I'm willing to bet that most NT types are going to prefer Fighters and Assassins.

You might even have more fun making a survey that asks what roles people think Introverts and Extroverts would prefer.

Yeah so, us INTPs never stop thinking of questions to ask and things to edit. We are interesting aren't we?
