Your lag is your responsibility

I'd like to address something that has peeved me recently. And I would like to gather thoughts from others. Obviously I am not talking about occasional spontaneous lag spikes, or an unexpected DC. I'm talking about consistent predictable lag issues.

Living on the East Coast, obviously there is ping issues here. But usually I can play fairly well at 90-120 ping. These last couple weeks lag in the evening has made the game unplayable, terrible and miserable. But when it did, I blamed myself. Myself for deciding to play when I knew lag might crop up, and for not always running a pingtest beforehand.

Yet, I see all these people who knew they were going to lag, knowing it was storming or a high traffic time. They get into a game anyway and either A; Blame their team, B; Win and think they are now superior because they won as a TEAM while that person was lagging, or C; Lose then say some BS like "Would have won if I wasn't lagging."

I see two, potentially three problems here. First of all, if you have any control over when you can play, don't play when it's lagging, or fix the lag first(If you can) before playing. Secondly, you should always check beforehand if you are lagging through a few pingtests, then at least you know you TRIED to make sure of things. Finally, nobody cares! The enemy team isn't going to care, they won, they are happy. Your DCs and lag isn't their issue, it's your issue. Your team cares, but just apologize, endless tears/raging doesn't help anything or anyone.

If you do lag and mess something up, apologize, don't start taunting the enemies or raging at your team. If you know you will probably lag during a game, test, then decide if it's worth it. Also, if you are in team builder where you have the time and no Queue dodge penalty, warn your team you have some latency issues. Better to spend longer looking for a tolerant team willing to carry you, than to go down in flames of rage all game.

There is also champion and role choice. If I am having a slow day(150+ ping) I'll play support, an easy one. Or Teemo, since Teemo can still be useful through shrooms even if he is at 600 pingTeemo . Perhaps a mid who focuses on just farming from safety. Don't go play Lee Sin or Ezreal with 333 ping, then complain all game that you can't hit anything.

In the end, your internet connection is your responsibility. If it's your house, then fix it. If it's your ISP, then call them. If it is the weather, take a break. If it's general slow times, make the right choices. BUT DON'T WHINE AT EVERYONE ELSE!

This isn't unsympathetic. I average 90-120 during the day. 200 in the evenings. And certain nights spike up to 10,000+ for minutes at a time. On League that is. Which reminds me, when you do a speed/ping test, do it to CAL as that is where the Riot servers are. Because my 20 ping to Orlando means nothing when playing League.

So, you're constantly playing the game at unacceptable levels of ping, and you're telling everyone else not to complain excessively about lagging? Seems legit, otherwise you'd be complaining all the time yourself.

You're assuming way too much knowledge of technology for the average gamer. No offense, but you are.

But the attitude comments I agree with... when I played the game, if I had lag - which was rare - I'd always apologize. I'd get frustrated, because it was so rare that it happened... but I'd apologize.

This is nice and cute but its not on our end but Riots this time.

I've had no issues with lag or ping before and now not only me but everyone I play with is having supremely horrible lag, but lo and behold after the patch crap hits the fan and the game is nigh unplayable due to it (input lag, 2 second freezes, etc.)

Now if it was any other time when alot of people play fine and normal then it "may" be the users speed that's the issue but not in these latest cases.

I do agree with you on it's a players choice to actually play in this muddy hell and if they do they really don't have the right to complain (looks at the people playing Ranked in this stuff and complaining on losing from lag).

I mean half the time I play I normally have around 80-100 ping(After this patch its a constant 180-220) which doesn't bug me that much and since I stay in ARAM most of the time no big deal since that's a For Fun mode but it is getting pretty tiresome to play in this and yes I know I don't have to play but this relaxes me after work and I don't have to really do much moving around.Jinx
