Please tell me how normals MMR works
I want to know why I'm constantly matched with/against plats and diamonds as a silver. This isn't just some random thing either; every single game (no really, check my LoLKing or whatever) I have at least 1, usually 2 or 3, plats or diamonds in my game. On my team, on the enemy team, doesn't matter. I want to know what I can do to STOP getting them in my games.
I don't want to hear some bullshit about how you can learn so much from playing against people better than you. That's a croc of shit spouted off by plats and diamonds themselves because they get their kicks from trashing low elo players in normals. When they can't win in ranked, they go to normals and pray that they get matched against some poor silver/gold players for an easy win (and probably some trash talk thrown in "for fun"). Well I'm sick and fucking tired of it.
I'm done with excuses. I'm done with "advice". Riot needs to address this now, because normals matchmaking has been stewing in shit for years now. There's nothing, ABSOLUTELY NOTHING good that can come from getting stomped game after game after game.
"Get good then", you'll say. Well sure, you say that as if it's as easy as making a sandwich. But the truth is it's impossible to glean any real knowledge about the game when you get out-played in every possible instance by people with better mechanics, better decision making, more knowledge of powerspikes/match-ups, teamfighting, and basically everything that matters. Sure, you could say "hmm, I died there because Lee counter-ganked and we were 1 level behind" but beyond that it's simply beyond the comprehension of a low elo player to know what they could have done differently. Should you have backed off immediately? Did you misplay mechanically? Should you have taken the Scuttle Crab before the gank to make sure Lee didn't sneak up on you? Or maybe a combination of all these things! Plats and diamonds would know exactly how and why they died, and what they need to do differently next time. But low elos (such as myself) have no way of knowing, and constantly misplay like this all the time. Enough of these misplays from people on the team can lead to a loss very quickly.
My point is, when you're in the middle of a game, it's impossible to take a few minutes of time to analyze what went wrong and what should have been done instead. You can't ask questions like "Oh wow, nicely played enemy team; what might we have done differently to avoid that?" because 1. There's a very high possibility you will be trash talked 2. There's no time during the game to go into detail about such things and 3. The enemy team simply won't care enough to answer you. And for those who say "just ask after the game!", I respond with "see #3". Sure once in a while you might get some friendly player to give legit advice, but let's be honest: that RARELY happens. And even if it does, will they (or you) really be able to remember one precise moment during a ~30 minute game, where plays were being made everywhere every few minutes? Certainly not.
Thus, without some kind of expensive recording software, learning from one's mistakes during a game is terrible advice. "Well people do it all the time, stupid, if they didn't then there would be no plats/diamonds at all!" And sure, that might be true, except the people there have played hundreds upon thousands of games of League over the course of several years, devoted countless time and energy into learning the game inside and out. Does the average player have time/money for that? Hell no they don't. Thus, we're stuck in low elo, forced to suffer both in ranked and in normals. Now, I personally couldn't give 2 shits about playing ranked. But when I decide to spend some free time playing this game, I expect to be matched against people similar to myself who have around the same level of knowledge as me. I don't mind the odd plat/diamond on either side; what I do mind is game after game of seeing plats and diamonds on both sides, along with a handful of silvers and golds. There's only so much stomping one person can take.
In the end, I don't ask for much. I don't care about 20 minute queue times, or never getting any better than I am now. I play this game for fun only; and there's nothing fun about losing every single game due to a gigantic skill gap between players. All I'm asking for is the option to play with people in my division only. Make it an option before queuing up for a normal game, a checkbox or something. Queue times be damned, smurfs be damned. It won't fix everything, but it will at least help a casual player feel better about enjoying his favorite pastime.
