Normal Match Making

Recently I've been playing normal games due to having a loss streak in ranked, and I've been queued against much higher skilled players... Most of the time I've had a highly skilled player on my team as well but sometimes not even that. I am currently Silver 4, and have been being queued against Gold to Diamond players in almost every normal I play. It's quite frustrating; especially if I'm playing in the same position as the higher skilled player. Did something change, or am I just really unlucky and getting queued with pre-mades? An option like solo queue in normals where you are actually queued against similarly skilled players would be nice, it's practically impossible for me to play a champion which I'm not particularly good with without getting completely stomped.. It's quite demoralizing.
