I feel partially bad saying this: Regarding The New Client

I've been using the new client now ever since...I don't even remember how long now, but no less than 6 months at the very least, since I was in before it was open Beta. I wanted to try a name change today, which seems fairly straight forward, but the new client STILL doesn't allow that in the store for some reason (maybe it just hates me, hell if I know), so I spent far too long to switch and patch over the old client just for that.

As I sit here going through the old client that I hated for so long because of the meh of it all, I have to say 100%, I prefer the older client. I wasn't one of those people who was (and some who still are) too stubborn to even really give the new client a chance, but now that I've come back to it, it is so much better (the old client).

  • Looks nicer in the sense that everything logically makes sense where it is
  • Things are easy to find, which partially goes back to the first point
  • Doesn't suffer from "looks over functionality"
  • Doesn't need a "potato mode" because of unneeded animations and what not.
  • It still has basic functionality that the new client somehow didn't come standard with (like...name changes in the store(yes I know it is there, but it basically does nothing for me and I don't know why), somehow not working with half the game modes, which confuses me, item sets, and so on).

Basically, I am going to go back to the new client after this name change simply because like windows 10, I eventually won't have much of a choice, but I think if given the choice, I'd probably just stick with the old client, because while it is "the old air client" it is at least polished with basic functionality that isn't slimmed down for shiny.

If practice mode and replays were on the old client, I would never touch the new one.

I'm pretty impartial on the client, but I will say I like the old shop better. I miss being able to go to a champs page by just clicking on them in the shop. I can still find what I need, but it just seems more tedious. Feels like I gotta jump through hoops to look at skins when the old client had them so accessible. And the new champ stats being a circle instead of a bar graph is so much harder to read (but I don't look at those anyway so can't say I really care)

Also when I go to find a game I occasionally press confirm on the game mode and alt tab forgetting I have to press begin queue.

And I don't really like new champion select. All the cinematic stuff is really distracting when all i wanna do is pick a champ. Especially the entire background changing whenever someone picks a champ is pretty obnoxious. Old select was much cleaner.

Edit: Also why does opening masteries during champ select cover so much of the window? The page is so much more spread out than it needs to be and it blocks everything else. If I'm making last minute mastery changes then I can't even see my summoner spells so I if I forgot smite there's a higher chance I won't notice.

Thanks for the responses so far not being super negative or trash talking Riot. While I'm frustrated with the new client, I think Riot IS working hard. I think I'm just disappointed with the "flashy over substance" with the client so far. While I feel Riot might not see that, it is very evident that is the final product SO FAR. I hope that changes, and I know we will have this new client regardless, but right now I'm just a bit bummed out and frustrated with what we have so far.

Still keeping my hopes up on this specific instance, as I know Riot understands the issues and are trying to fix them, I just hope the direction they go in keeps improving the substance and usability, and we get no more "shiny", because the shiny is, I feel, a huge detriment to what it behind it currently.

Main problem with new client in my opinion: 1: On the old client you can find things you want easily, new client the placement of things seems to be much more confusing and alot of times doesn't makes sense 2: Requires pretty decent PC, even in potato mode the client is so slow and choppy (I get about 60 fps in game) 3: No item sets (Yes im not over that)

The only reason I left old client is because of practice mode.

You can change your name on the new client though. It's a bit hard to find but it's there.

I'm trying to adjust. I don't like the Beta Client, but I'm trying to make myself like it, and I guess it's working. It doesn't feel any better in most of the shared features, and in some cases it feels worse because I need to click more or wait longer. It does look nicer and it has cool features like Replays and Practice Tool. Basically, I'm trying to make myself accustomed to its flaws so that I can ignore them in the future and live with the benefits happily. (I do really like the graphics.)

EDIT: It also had drag and drop Mastery Pages and Rune Pages.

I have mixed emotions about the new client. I tried it for a while but had to switch back after the immense amount of bugs, few weeks later most of them were fixed. Everything still feels a little bit off I suppose. It still takes a while for tabs to register when you click on them, and it just feels different. Not sure how else to describe it. I will admit it looks more polished but I honestly think people just need the function to play a game and could careless about half the updates.

I feel pretty positive about the new client (barring the hiccups), granted I started playing in S6, so I'm not as used to the old client as say many other people here.

Visuals are a pretty big thing for me, and I really like how the new client flows. Again, this is probably only because I haven't used the old one enough to be entrenched completely in its flow.

So I think it's fair if you like the old one better, I feel like I'm more willing to stick with the new client because I'm one of those kind of people who really values presentation.
