Instead of simply retconning out the IOW, why not have a new faction DESTROY IT?

Simply saying "IOW doesn't exist anymore, hurr durr!" is pissing people off, Riot. You could do better than that.

IMO, a better way to go about it would be to keep in the Institute of War as canon, but in order to remove its role in future Champion releases, have one of those releases be the leader of a faction that destroys the Institute and kills the High Summoners.

If you want my opinion, have it be dragons lead by an Alduin/Deathwing expy. Something every other faction would have a beef with, but is too powerful for them to take head-on.

Because destroying the IoW would require telling a story, and Riot would rather talk about how they're going to make stories in the future, going so far as to dedicate lengthy blog posts to it rather than just actually writing a goddamned story.

I had an idea a whie ago, conquerors from a different continent coming to Runeterra. Sort of like the Spanish Empire and America, I'm talking about something weird like elves or something really shocking and different (which is not easy already having in mind we have champions like cho'gath vel'koz nocturne brand). Imagine all the situations id could generate, the options are endless and they could just destroy the Institute. A Void invasion would also be nice, instead of a champions "exploring". The Watchers could come back.

I guess Riot is too lazy to do anything and they just feel they have to make something catastrophic in order to get into a new Era
