Should I even bother playing ranked right now?
I just hit level 30 and am able to do placement games now. Will the new season reset any rank I get right now?

The new season will reset your rank, though if you play now the MMR your account gains or loses will remain, so it'll be easier or harder to climb come the reset.
I personally feel there is a bit of an advantage to first playing ranked during the preseason in that people tend to be a bit more chill, versus really competitive come the reset. That can make for a somewhat easier learning environment. Having said that though ranked as a newly level 30 player can be pretty challenging and a lot of people will recommend learning a few champs for a couple of roles fairly well before diving into ranked (with appropriate rune/mastery pages set up too).

Yeah, you should wait for the new season to start if you want to keep any progress on your profile. Because we are in the pre-season currently, people who are ranked still have the rank they finished last season with.
Wait until ranked is reset to play, otherwise you will do your placements twice over.
i'd say to wait. do rune pages(if you havent already) and wait for solo queue to be re-released. your call though
I've never heard of a fresh 30 who played ranked off the bat and didn't regret it eventually.
I would say play rank now. Supposed when the reset occurs if you get to your promo games again you'll at least get that free win if you come across that rank again. However since last season was the first time it was implemented, I am not sure if those get reset as well.
Should probably get a better understanding of the game first. I did the same thing when I first hit level 30 and ended up at like bronze 2. It took me around 700 ranked games to get from there to plat. So make sure you're comfortable in a role and with a few champions before you move to ranked.
