[Debate] Nikasaur's Void
Hello and welcome to my weekly (at least that's what I shoot for) [Debate] post. In this post series I outline a subject with LoL, and encourage people to post their own opinions and views about the subject. I hope to spark intelligent, civil and open-minded debate amongst the community. Just in case you don’t know how to do debate that here are the guidelines:
- Don't dismiss anyone's opinions, opinions are never wrong, you just disagree with them.
- You are free to disagree with someone always, but always do your best to explain why.
- Don't get emotional, hopefully we're all adults here, keep it in 'debate' mode. No catfights allowed.
- Feel free to disagree with my OP as well! I love feedback, but this is a debate thread, I'll respond where I can!
- There is a comment reply cap! You only have a few tries to rebuttle and argue a point, so make them count!

######I could say ‘Nikasaur’s shadow’ too, but void is just more League-esq imho ####Who is Nikasaur? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rhvJJcjkidU&feature=kp For those who haven’t been in the LoL community for too long or just meandering along, Nikasaur was the host for the ever nostalgic Summoner Showcase. Sadly the Showcase’s youtube videos could not bear her loss and promptly stopped after the 113th episode that bid her farewell (shown above). There is still a functioning Facebook page and plenty of jaw-dropping entries still coming in.
####The Issue
What this has done is cause Summoner Showcase to fall out of the public eye. The weekly compilation video that I personally looked forward to every time stopped and we as a community lost a large community focal point. The bigger issue, however, is the hurdle that anyone wanting to remedy this has to overcome. They have to avoid being “just another Nikasaur”.

So guy and gals, I got two questions for you this time around:
- What is the most important thing Summoner Showcase gave to you and/or the community as a whole?
- What do you think a ‘replacement’ have to do to have the same/greater success Nikasaur did?

I think the greatest thing Summoner showcase did was give contact and attention to the amazing people in the LoL community that weren’t pro level good at the game itself. It gave an actual feeling of community, and gave credit to the appropriately amazing talents of the people we could have played with the other day. To delve further, it gave hard evidence that the people we played and will play with on a completely random match are people with different talents, ideas and stories and are so much more than just random usernames with text chat attached. Sure, most people probably didn’t think that far into it and just watched as an interesting collection of cool stuff, but the fact is they showed what normal players could do outside of League and accredit them as people and not just players.
As far as a replacement, the first given would have to be an endorsement or nod from Riot and working with the still functioning Summoner Showcase. Hell, maybe even a random online visit from Nikasaur herself. Summoner Showcase and Nikasaur both have a serious reputation and instead of launching as an independent project trying to fight against that reputation I would say the best way is to instead work with that established reputation. Carry the torch instead of lighting a bigger flame, one could say. Beyond that, enthusiasm. Enthusiasm in spades. Before you get to good video editing, good logistics or good organization or even proper presentation skills, this replacement would have to love what they do. It’s what Nikasaur did and damn could we see it, enthusiasm is and should be infectious. I can safely say that Summoner Showcase got me into prop making and while I can’t claim to be great at it, I would never have tried it without seeing how genuinely awesome League art and community creations could be.
##Addendum
As a brief and shameless hijacking of my own thread, I do want to thank Nikasaur and anyone else who helped with Summoner Showcase (showcased community members included) a whole lot for making those 113 episodes possible. Seriously, I still can’t believe how awesome this community can be if given time and inspiration. It made me proud to be a part of this playerbase and still does.
