Some people pay others to play on their account and get them highly ranked. Their spike of solo queue rank doesn't override their thousands of lost games though, so their MMR (and their skill) will still be very low.

Basically, they're most likely an idiot who bought their rank.

Maybe yours is really good? It's based off of all your games, normals included I believe, so your solo queue rank has very little to do with mmr.

Don't quote me on that, I could be wrong.

I think there must be some definitive grid and circumstance that accurately describes how MMR is given/taken. The way it was described to me was that you start at 1200 as a brand new player with a max gain-loss of 40 MMR per game. The system looks at KDA, CS, and objectives as well as compares your wins/losses against the opponents MMR. For example: I enter a game where I am 1200 MMR but duo queued with a silver whose MMR takes me into silver games where they have 1250+. The system says: "i expect you to lose to these opponents", and if you win it gives more MMR than the other players closer to the other players with similar MMR's to the opponents. If you lose, you lose less because the system determined that I was already expected to lose and handicaps the downfall of MMR as compared to those with similar or higher MMR.

Last year, I did my provisionals and lost ALL TEN of the games. I ended up with Bronze III. This year I duo queued with my friend who is silver and played ABOVE my MMR. We won 5 games, lost 5 games, and in 4 of those games I was carrying. Yet, after game 10, my friend ends up Silver 3 and I end up bronze 4. HOW is playing ABOVE my MMR and having a 50% win ratio against silvers WORSE than 100% loss ratio to people at my MMR?

Please explain. Sorry for the brusque manner as I am still rather heated because I did nothing different from last year. I even duo queued with the same person.
