Why Riot should make an RTS or Dungeon Crawler.

#Real Time Strategy: A great opportunity to expand lore as RTS are known for.

Take the MOBA genre in reverse to it's roots.

We get to see our favorite characters leading/murdering/saving people/armies.

Opens up a second E-Sport opportunity.

Riot can shove it in Blizzard's face by doing it better and making it actually strategic.

#Dungeon Crawler A great opportunity to expand lore as Dungeon Crawlers are known for.

Essentially PvE LoL.

We could finally see what our champions are capable of without being held back by PvP balance.

Greatly expand on champion kits and characters.

Shyvana can finally properly be Dirgen and rek shiz.

#Either way Riot can make themselves more than a one-trick-wonder and show the world they have lasting value as a company.

We as players can get more insight into Runeterra and enjoy our characters and lore in another less toxic fun format.

Plot twist: Riot decided the RTS is too slow and starts adding snowball mechanics. 2 years later, the game effectively ends by 5 minute mark; and you're left suffering for another 15 minutes until surrender unlocks.

  1. Riot would only make a game that would work as an e$port, so PvE is out
  2. Riot would have to dumb down an RTS, not make a complicated RTS because it would not carry over as much of their audience, which is very casual.

Riot should take the league of legends lore and turn it into a multiplayer text based adventure game.

I would travel north 5 spaces for that

RTS would be way more viable. The different league factions would translate very well into pseudo-asymmetrical multiplayer similar to Starcraft's races.

Creating interesting levels, items, creeps, and champion-specific classes for a Dungeon Crawler would require significantly more resources and be dependent on continuous content or extreme replayability that I doubt Riot could satisfactorily accomplish.

I imagine the faction thing could work decently well for both an RTS or a 4X game is they wanted something slower and more outright strategic (turn-based in this case, as opposed to the few RTS-4X games).

I'd probably hedge my bets on RTS of the two, though, because I feel that with the current 4X titles on the market the marketshare isn't particularly huge for a new IP being thrown into the mix and it'd sell likely off of the name alone unless it was so good that it became widely acclaimed. I'd kinda like seeing a Runeterra-based RTS made in the spirit of BFME.

This is exactly what I want to see, especially relating things to the universe and the lore. Question is, how would it be implemented? Would there be champion specific missions that you play to unlock points in their backstory (solo, locked character)? Would they be multiplayer missions with faction-based champ select and objectives (co-op, small selection)? Would they be simply game-modes? In the long run additions like this could make the game so much better, but it takes a lot of resources and take a long time to implement. What I don't want to see is something like Runescape, where you create your own character and playstyle within an open world. It would detract from the whole "Legends" aspect of the game.

I'm all for Riot making another game based off the League universe, and I could agree with making an RTS for League. But I'd rather have a Fighting game for League. Less worry about (potential) lore conflicting, and new characters can be added constantly. This can be done with an RTS too, but I fear that for gameplay's sake the lore would go through some changes, big or small.

You can quote me here, Riot Game will forever remain Riot Game. There will never be another title produced by this company. Why? They have no agency over what they do as a company, they're not self contained.

So yeah, lovely thread with some good ideas ... that's all I see this as.

I'm pretty sure Riot's gonna reveal some huge 2nd game in the next few years. They've been hinting at it and it just makes so much sense from a business perspective.

I have to say, I'd rather see a league MMORPG or even a league fighting game before anything else, but that's just me.

I think theres a perception that the MOBA killed those two genres. I mean, theres probably a huge portion of the playerbase who would just never bother to play the spinoffs because "eh why not just play normal league".

Very neat to picture though. I'll toss a super impractical idea on the pile: 4x spinoff that's basically Endless Legend, with league gameplay for the battles (force all armies to have a hero or something idk).

As i don't really care for RTS and don't see how it would give any more lore than a moba is capable off.

a Dungeon crawler would be nice, however for the sake of the people working on it the champion pool has to be limited. i would honestly go for a select group of the more fantasy themed champs (demacia, noxus, ionia, shadow isles, bilgewater) as i don't think champs like caitlyn/vi/jinx/jayce/heimer/... would fit.

You have never played RTS campaigns have you? They are super rich in lore. Moba is a pvp fighting arena game with 0 in game lore.

I wanna see a MMORPG where you end up meeting certain characters from the game. And maybe (depending on the class) learn skills from those characters.

as i said no i don't really care for the rts genre.

Still i don't see how it offers more lore than a moba. Riot could "easily" give us a campaign in which you fight Ai, are given a team depending on faction or even character and tells a story. However they'd probably put in alot of time most people won't care about as they just want to pvp.

Tekken campaigns contain the lore for the games and yet the gameplay is exactly the same as the pvp.

I'm not trying to bash on the idea of a league RTS, i'll probably give it a shot if they make one. but i just don't think there is a difference in potential between RTS & MOBA when it comes to lore.

You know how Legend of Zelda have Hyrule Warrior and Fire Emblem is getting a Fire Emblem Warrior, I would love to get a Runeterra Warrior especially with how the new Demacia Lore show how often they may go into battle with other nation. We would be able to participate in it's historical battles.

We could be a part of the war in Kalamanda.
