Can we stop posting these kinds of threads? If you honestly care more about the female power, racial diversity, or sexuality of characters more than having fun in the game, why are you even here?

I honestly thought this was gonna be a fill-in-the-blank thread...

I hope the next champion looks like Poppin' Fresh and has an omnipresent sexuality.

I think more diversity and archetypes leads to more exciting and unique champion design. I've seen plenty of generic fantasy babes and towering meat men. What I don't see are little explored concepts like a flirty male seducer incubus type champions, masculine female warriors who look like badasses and could beat the crap out of you, old cackling witches, etc.

Because crazy feminists.

Anita Sarkeesian has been leading the charge for assorted shit such as "female videogame characters that aren't in any way, shape or form sexualized", but when Nintendo comes out with Linkle, her first response is "Not good enough".

That's very easy to say when you have a very wide variety of characters for you to identity to. Just because minority groups wish to be more represented in different medias (and yes, video games are a form of media) doesn't mean that's all they care about. Honestly your post is very misguided. You are presenting wanting to have characters you can identity to and caring about how fun the game is as opposites, but that's not the reality. They're not in competition, they're different things entirely.

I wouldn't expect someone who doesn't have to deal with this issue to understand, though. Well, not at first anyway. But I would invite you to try and put yourself in the place of people who barely ever see someone like them in the media. Or when they do see such a character it's always the token black guy or the sassy gay friend. Maybe you can't really imagine living your life being hated by some just for being who you are and being reminded of such bias by the media who pander to the majority and don't wan't to upset racists and homophobes or challenge the sexism women still suffer from to this day. Or maybe you just don't want to, but I think it's probably the former. The media help to forge what our perception of reality is and it is disheartening to see that some groups are largely ignored or misrepresented. It affects people who are part of those groups in several ways. It affects how they are treated in their everyday life by others, but it also affects how they perceive themselves. This is especially true if you are struggling with your identity.

Btw I'm not trying to say that being a woman, or gay or well basically not being a straight white male is an awful experience. It is getting better, but not by itself. It gets better as people become more educated on the issues that others face in today's society, so that's just what I'm trying to do here. I know this isn't a very detailed post, but I still hope you'll stop and actually think about this. Asking for more diverse and accurate representation of non-dominant groups in the media isn't just some silly little request that should be laughed at. It's a serious issue. Just because it doesn't affect you directly doesn't make it less of an issue and just because some groups are claiming their rightful place in society doesn't mean you're losing anything that **does **belong to you.

But I hope the next champion looks like a female who won't be sexualized in anyway but if you make her ugly you are a misogynistc filthy man pig and has an Akio-Autochoris-Cete-Quoisexuality. I hwve no idea what sexuality I have created. I just pulled this stuff straight from Tumblr.

Truth be told, yours is the first post on this issue I have seen in months.

Also, why the hell do you care about what other people want. What are you? The police?

Zantumall11/29/2015, 9:22:16 PM13 votes

You know it's possible to care about the diversity of characters in the game and care about having fun, right? I'd love to see more diversity in League's character cast, but that doesn't lock me out of caring about the gameplay or balance or whatever. Just because somebody makes a thread hoping for a champion with less-explored physical/sexual/whatever characteristics doesn't mean they don't care about the game as a game too.

Wyrmblade11/29/2015, 9:24:29 PM12 votes

I don't think you should ever make a character specifically to fill in as a token, they never end up having much depth. A character isn't defined by what they are, just make a cool character and if it just organically feels like it's something, then it is. I think Lucian is a pretty good example, his whole look wouldn't really be coherent if he was from Ionia or something.

What I'm saying is that the best solution to this kind of shit is to not worry about it at all and let people make whatever the fuck they want to make.

Sammystorm11/29/2015, 9:31:08 PM9 votes

I think you missed the point of a lot of the threads. Most people that post those types of threads care more about diversity in the art not specifically feminism.

Also you can enjoy a game and still try to hold it to values you hold. Trying to separate them like you just did is pretty silly.

RowanEnd11/29/2015, 9:04:49 PM8 votes

tbh riot has done a great job at having diverse champions, people just want to make sure that the diversity is kept, to a degree, like, imagine if every champ was white and had the bodies of MissFortune / LeeSin . Thats boring as hell. Not that theres anything wrong with having attractive white champions, but like, diversity.

Szunray11/30/2015, 5:58:55 PM5 votes

These threads are always such bullshit.

How come if someone says "Man I want another robot!" Or "I hope we see another of whatever Rengar is" then it's totally cool, but if someone says "League could use a huge ripped black guy" then I'm an SJW on a crusade against fun?

Diversity seems to be a good thing unless it's diversity in types of human characters. And yeah, say what you want but being represented in a game makes that game more fun. It just does. I don't even LIKE mages, but when Ekko came out I could hardly stop playing him, because he was like me.

Trelania11/29/2015, 8:00:15 PM5 votes

I want an androgynous looking male. Incubus, as someone mentioned before, would be an approach I haven't seen before. Sexuality doesn't matter.

Like I get what your saying and that's fair and all, but it's totally valid to wanna see more representation of race and orientation and it can be a really important part of a person's experience with the game.

Like plenty of people can play this game with the characters being nothing but mechanics, they're here for the gane without narrative, without story, without immersion, so having trans or poc folk in the game shouldn't matter to them, they're still just you know, a set of abilities to play as.

But then there's players like me who need immersion, and to be able see a bit of themselves in there character, like yasuo is an extremely fun champion but I don't think I personally could play him if he had rivens model, it'd break immersion.

So since I can get my immersion experience why not everyone else? It shouldn't really affect anyone who only cares about the gameplay.

And league is crazy exspansive, you can't tell me that in a world with ancient shuriman gods, giant kraken deities, and over world aliens, that there aren't humanoids that reject the gender spectrum.

People interpret fun in different ways, and we all wanna have fun, having more diversity only adds to that ^^

Señor Karthus11/30/2015, 4:15:37 AM3 votes

Playing the game OR asking for better designs and accurate diversity in the game? People like you always forget that both are not mutually exclusive.
