[Survey] Help me out! How old are you?

Hey guys, my next [SALT] is all about the age of the League playerbase, and unfortunately there is a lot of generalization when it comes to gaming demographics. So that's where you guys come in!

Go here and fill out the form (1-3 questions, that's all).

You can even see the current results if you finish!

This will not only simply be interesting but will also really help me out if enough people contribute!

######Note: Oops, I goofed a little when I noticed a typo. It'll be accounted for in the final results, but as far as the live results, there are exactly 11 non-displayed votes for the 16-20 age in the third question that should be there. My bad!!

so feed back on the final question. I get that its optional but i would of liked to be able to select a bigger range. 5 year increments are just to small. i woule of liekd to seem them as 20 -29 30-39 ect.

I can understand that, I just would rather force a more precise decision on that smaller range to better fracture the results. My chief fear was one set of ranges dominating the results and diluting any actual conclusion gained from it.

Naturally though if your guess range was in between the ones given that would suck, but aside from picking individual numbers there's not much to do there, as a diferent set of participants would have the same problem for another range. But thank you for the feedback nonetheless!

Smart, I remember one time a professor put up a survey for a class that was supposed to be 50 questions on one page and it ended up as 50 pages of the exact same question some how. He didn't know it until about a week after when he viewed the results because every single course section just went with it.

You'll have to be careful when using the results of this survey, since:

It's only a sampling of the forum community, and
It suffers from (self) selection bias.

Not to mention just the sheer small sample size I will inevitably get. I'm planning to re-post in GD (and possibly here as well if this one gets buried) on the weekend to make sure I don't miss anyone who would want to participate.

I'm planning on also bringing in several other sources, but as I said in OP, they're all just so weak. The best one I've been able to find is another guy's attempt on Leddit which got a huge sample size but by nature is at risk for a large amount of data contamination. More official data is generalized to the video game industry as a whole, which brings in console and even app games into the mix.

All in all, no worries. I am aware of the bias and specific sample scope and it will be properly represented, but nonetheless I appreciate the pointer :)

Definitely difficult to get data on age ranges if you're not the actual game company. In my experience... The older the gamer the less likely to pay attention to - or at least partake in - forums and such. When I was in my teens all my friends would utilize gaming related forums. Now... I think I'm the only person I know who does so. And that's limited to CB due to the small, positive community.

Sent mine in: The data so far seems interesting, but I guess you'd need more people to take the survey for more data.

I guess it's worth noting that, assuming you keep the link to the survey on CB, you may get limited data/ have data skewed somehow.

Already got a post in GD going, but yeah it will still be biased towards League forum goers rather than players, but unless a red wants to come down and lay down some official data this'll be the next best thing :)

I'm a couple weeks away from my 21st birthday, so I put myself into the 21-25 age category instead of the 16-20. I'm looking forward to reading your next SALT. I've read some of your previous ones.

Hi! I think that this survey is a great idea, since age is obviously a big deal to a lot of lol-players. In many matches people treat me like shit because I'm only 14, and because I'm a girl. Anyone else that is experiencing something similar? This is only how I feel, and I'm curious if anyone else feels like this? summoner 3

That's actually the main thing I'm going to be talking about in my next SALT, actual age versus perceived age. Unless you say how old you are, the only thing anyone has to go on is their own assumptions on what you age is. Some people may assume everyone is 12 and talk down to them, or others (I do this actually) assume the flipside and assume everyone is around 21-26 because of where the average gamer's age lies
