Climbing Ranked

I would like an answer to how this is done with so many "OP" champs or terrible players (aka Stupid people). I've tried climbing the ranked ladder. But for all of my knowledge, thanks to several players that helped me learn, and how I learned to play the champs I enjoy, I cannot climb. I hear it's "if you play long enough you climb." Bull-fucking-shit. How you play in this game has zero effect on your wins/loss ratio. None. I can play 1 million ranked matches and stay Bronze 5 even if I got an S+ every match and went positive in kills by double my deaths. The entire match is based on how your team does. Which since I have not found an intelligent team to play with yet is impossible for me, and other like me, to climb out.

Tell me this is a healthy ranking system. Tell me this is what every other game is using as a ranking system, cuz you know if it is terrible, just keep doing the same thing. What could possibly go wrong? Tell me there is no other way to make it better. You haven't looked. You haven't even tried. Why not improve? Why be the most stagnant form of a game I have ever seen with the worst ranking system I have ever seen?

What ranking ideas have you tried that don't work? What haven't you tried that you think won't work? How can you make the game less toxic. At this rate I'd have more fun screwing my team over legitimately through Riot's rules so I never get banned and I always have decent stats even if I lose every match. Quite honestly, that sounds like it'd be more fun than being stressed out because of incompetent teammates. I make mistakes. But I don't make those kind of mistakes that screw the match over.

I had a team of all AP champs except ADC. I picked WW first as I was going AP WW which is strong against teams that build Armor. Then my team picks Lux top against a Riven, Cho'gath against Akali, Lucian and Soraka against Lulu and Jinx. I'm against Volibear in the Jungle. Once the enemy team builds all MR because we are all AP it was over. I couldn't adjust my build because of their toughness. I did good at first then my team runs from every fight. Lux feeds Riven after claiming to be the one to carry. Cho'gath tells me to build tank after it's too late. I do better damage to them as AP even if it is reduced a bit. Thier whole team is roaming together and mine runs from every fight leaving me to die. Cho'gath proceeds to tell me (as a WW main) that you never build WW AP, you build him tank and damage. As a WW main, AP WW works great.. unless your entire team is AP and squishy as frick. Then I knew that they weren't the brightest bunch and we were doomed. And then we lost with Cho'gath raging at me that I'm terrible and need to be reported because I disagreed on how to build and play WW after he ran from every fight.

This is what I have to deal with. If I was ranked based on my in game ranking then I'd go up in rank with an A-. i'd prolly be the only one to go up in rank on my team if only I go up by a smidgen. As it currently stands, it isn't climbable unless you have a smurf friend (which I do not) to pull you out of it. Riot gets mad at you for doing what you can to get out of the hell they have created. The next season you HAVE to go down according to Riot policy. Which is stupid and garbage. change the Ranking system to something that isn't trash so this game isn't so toxic.

  1. You average 4.6 kills, 6.1 deaths, and 4.1 assists in your ranked games. That is an average KDA of 1.43. That is not carrying.
  2. You average about 4 cs per minute when not support/jungle. That is not carrying.
  3. You pretty always deal far less damage to champions that the rest of your team (typically only one player is worse than you on your team.) That is not carrying.
  4. You have played 9 ranked games this season. Most players who are serious about climbing play hundred or even thousands of games a season.

Conclusion: You are not as good as you say you are. You are not carrying the game therefore you do not deserve to climb. For all the "knowledge" you have you still don't have the mechanical skill nor the in-game decision making ability to climb.

Recommendations: Any time you die in game ask yourself "how could I have avoided dying." If you can answer that question you can learn from your mistakes. Also, download a replay program like SkinSpotlights Replay and watch your replays. Analyze the replay as if you were watching a really good friend play who was struggling. You have to be brutally honest with yourself. Finally, there are free coaches that can help you climb (lol-coaching,com is my favorite site.)

"Carrying" is not the only reason you climb. If it was then only 1 person should go up and the rest of the team go down. KD is invalid. The objectives and teamwork are what matter. I don't have a low KDA for fun. It happens because my team needs a babysitter and cries if I'm trying to get Sated or something because they are incapable of playing under a turret and/or warding and/or playing their champ.

If I jump in to save someone they tend to throw their lives away, or they ditch me when I ganked. These are not teamwork ideologies. This is stupidity at its finest. You can look at stats all you want. If you aren't in the match or watching it you have no room to tell me that I am good or bad. I may not be a diamond level player. I might be. I don't know honestly because the system is too fucked up. Solo decision making does NOT win games. You could have the perfect gank set and ready to spring and it will win you the game by an ACE, and your team flops it because "they got damaged". Poof there goes your win. And your perfect "in-game decision making".

I can avoid dying by not helping my team in any way other than taking objectives on my own. I die if I help because they are cowards and bad players in general. If you think my "decision making" is bad.. You clearly haven't met any of the people I play with. I love to have constructive criticism, PROVIDED IT IS COMING FROM SOMEONE PLAYING WITH ME AND SEES THE CRAP I'M PLAYING WITH. Saying my stats need to be better and then having no idea what the team comp was, who picked in what order, what items were built by the entire team on both sides, at what point in time things happened, who chased kills instead of objectives, who warded, pinged, or paid attention to the map. These are things I'll gladly take criticism on.

My intention is to not "carry" my team. I will if I can and I have too. But my objective is the objectives. When I get a team that can stand on it's own two feet and make smart decisions, I will win games. That's the only way to climb that has actual proof.

That's where you are wrong: carrying is the only way to climb in solo queue. Sometimes you have to drag your team to victory kicking and screaming because they are throwing so hard. Sometimes that means letting your teammates die because they made a bad decision. It is better to give up one death than give up three or four.

I don't know how you think you know everything about ranked when you've only played 9 games this season. I'm trying to help you and you just instantly dismiss my advice. Keep doing that with everyone and you will never climb. You have a victim mentality. You have the mentality of "its impossible to climb." As long as you believe it is impossible it will be impossible. Having the right mentality is the first step.

You put so little faith in statistics but statistics are one of the most important tools you have to analyze your play over long periods of time. Any high level player will tell you that. I have over 1,000 games of my own data that show a direct correlation between win rate and KDA. I literally have so many data points that I can make a graph that shows my win rate goes up as my KDA goes up. Yes in a SPECIFIC game a death may be warranted if it nets your team an ace or allows you to get baron but over many games your KDA should be much higher than it is. The fact of the matter is you are dying too much, you cs poorly, and you do very little damage to champions in your games. If you work on those 3 areas you will improve. You will climb.

I love how you completely ignore all of my recommendations. Any diamond level player will tell you the same things. If you don't believe me then go get a diamond level coach for free like I said in my original post.

I appreciate your trying to help. I do. However, if I ever learned one thing from league, it is that your team is not reliable. Do it yourself. Survive. When I do, my team is screaming "BAN BAN BAN" because I am doing what is best for me and the team which is.

I am, according to league, Diamond when it comes to taking objectives and killing things in Normals. If that can't transfer over to Ranked then I am clearly not the problem. I am Platinum in wins and creep score. So tactically, I am really good. Working well with others and functioning as a team I am not doing as good as my Tactics. In creep score I could be better but that only means I am active in other areas.

I am NOT saying I'm the best thing since fresh cheese. I AM saying that a stat is an afterthought to a consequence from the past. If you weren't there you cannot guarantee you know what happened in its fullest. Circumstances cannot be made into a stat. Yes they are helpful in certain areas, but they are not the end all be all.

I do not have a victim mentality. I have a "I'm sick of this bullshit and these selfish teammates" mentality. I could honestly care less if I had tons of kills and stuff. I just want to win. I'll do what it takes. But my team will not. That isn't a victim mentality. Mechanics aren't gonna change with a victim mentality and I'm too logical and literal to give it two minutes of my time. I am not looking at this from a "how can Riot make me feel better?" point of view. I'm looking at this from a "this is toxic and unbalanced and can be improved so that the community as a whole can be happier and enjoy more matches" point of view.

I do not ignore help easily. I have a learning style that requires me to do it to get better at it. Someone saying something isn't as effective as someone doing it with me and showing me the ropes. Doesn't have to be a ranked game or even a normals game for that matter. But saying something is easy. Doing something is hard.

I can farm minions like nobodies business while my base burns, I can kill enemies on one side of the map as my other lanes collapse, I can not die by avoiding what I can't win and not help my teammates. That makes me a pretty bad teammate though. I've seen excellent teamwork defeat amazing odds. Blow through statistics. And even topple Communist dictatorships! Okay, not the last one.. But you get the idea. if I ever meet a Diamond player that watches/plays a game with me and then critiques me, I can learn from that. I can't learn from people saying I am doing this and this wrong and have zero help in getting me up more in skill.

This is the problem: you are not diamond when it comes to taking objectives and killing things in normals. You are not platinum in wins and creep score. If you are talking about those icons on the "normals" section of your summoner profile that doesn't mean you are playing at plat/diamond level, it just means that you have X number of wins/minion kills/etc. All of my icons on that page are diamond, it doesn't make me a diamond player.

One of the most important things you can learn is do as much damage as possible, get as many minions as possible and take as many objectives as possible WITHOUT DYING. That's what seperates a bronze player from higher elo. You have to learn what the absolute limits are for each champ, when you need to run away and when you can stay just a few seconds longer to pick up that extra kill or tower.

Who cares if your team doesn't like how you play. Like I said, sometimes you have to drag them kicking and screaming to victory. As long as you aren't being toxic or purposely feeding their reports will mean nothing.

As cold as it may sound, your team doesn't matter because you will never influence how they play. The only thing that matters is how you play. Stop focusing on "my team is bad" and focus instead on "how can I improve." How YOU can improve is less deaths, higher creep scores, and higher damage to champions.

cant climb because ur bad and not getting better

SuicideJ1 votes

How am I bad. And how am I supposed to get better?

Stained Spear1 votes

U lost me at bronze 5

SuicideJ1 votes

I'm not Bronze 5. I'm saying the game is rigged to drop you as far down as it can regardless of how you do in promos.

ƒæµ1 votes

Game is not rigged, you play well you rank up simple as that. Elo hell isnt real.

SuicideJ1 votes

So IF I can get an S+ in every match I play win or lose I should go up in rank? Or if I win with no skill and go up... Which do you think is gonna send me up? And with what consistency?

ƒæµ1 votes

No the letter grade thing means essentially nothing. Only thing that matters is Win or Loss. You need to play well consistantly and yo uwill just naturally win more than you lose. For sure there will be games where you played well as an individual but lost the game, just keep playing well and you will average more wins and thus climb.

SuicideJ1 votes

If I lose to the bottom and then win every once in awhile I'm going to stay at the bottom. Sometimes, it will be my fault, sometimes it won't. It depends on the game. But I think that your grade should have more to do with the ranking system to tell if you are doing better and that becasue you did your job that you deserve to go up and play with people of like grades.

Dreadlocks1 votes

What rank are you exactly? I can prob help; )

SuicideJ1 votes

Last season I did my promos and was Silver 4, I worked up to Silver 3 promos and went down to Silver 5. Was pretty pissed. I have one game left in my promos for this season. It doesn't look like I'll be very high at all.

Dreadlocks1 votes

Add me wen ur done I can help

SuicideJ1 votes

You could have added me. But I added you anyways lol.

I disagree. Last thing you want is people playing selfish to pad stats and get higher letter grades. the letter grades will be perfect when keys and the hextech crafting system is out, so you can earn RP items for playing well individually; but at the end of the day it's a team game, you win and lose as a team. Your Rank is an accurate reflection of your skill at a role, if you play your role well and do your job to win games you will simply rank up.

SuicideJ1 votes

You can do your role well and do your job and not win games. It is not cut and dry. If you get extra points for your grade for going in as a team then it encourages teamwork. If saving an ally gives you more points for your grade then it is incentive to do so. I already play with the most selfish people in the game when I try to play like a team.
