Good Solo Queue Supports? Support Advice?

CST Resonance··2 votes·2,322 views

I've been playing League of Legends for about five months, and I've discovered that my best role is support. My problem is that I don't think I'm playing the right supports for solo queue, and my goal for the upcoming season is to make it into gold. One of my main problems with support is that if you get a "bad" ADC (ie overextending, not capitalizing on your cc, missing last hits) it makes laning phase a nightmare. I'm not trying to say I'm great, because I'm not, but I just need some advice to get out of silver as a support main.

For me, the absolute best supports have been Nami and Leona. If you go Leona, state you're getting aggressive at three so they know to follow you. Nami is generally a safe pick because regardless of adc skill, you can harass, stun, slow and empower autos which also slows. If we're pushed to tower, it is usually a good time to make a quick roam mid and see if you can get them a kill on either leo or nami, as they are good at it. :)

I used to like Leona, but I feel I've lost touch with her. Nami is one of my favorites as well, just pretty pricy.

Thresh can change a game completely, either in your favor or the enemies. If you learn how to make good plays with Thresh, he's great for Solo Q. I'd also recommend Zilean or Volibear.

Lulu is an amazing supp imo, idk why she isn't used more in solo queue.

Pros: Offers GREAT survivability to a friendly Offers aoe cc with her q and r Offers good chase potential with her w Scales decently into the mid/late game as a supp

Cons: Takes time getting used to (diverse kit, skill shots) Her cc is mediocre (she isn't like say Leona when it comes down to locking up targets) Mana hungry (easily avoided by not spamming spells in lane) Squishy (if you don't have ult)

Janna, Nami, Thresh & Soraka are good imo. I'm a supp main and most games I'll try and get J, N or T. Leona is a good choice but personally i just prefer Thresh more. Learn how to land your hooks and follow up with w and e. Learn how to control areas properly and you'll have a good time. Sustain wise, Nami and Soraka both bring some real cool toys to the game.

What it comes down to is that you need somebody who can keep the enemy champs away from minions.

Thresh/Blitz work because they can force champions OOP, letting any non-braindead ally harass away to their heart's content.

Nami poses a similar threat with her bubble, though it's generally not quite as strong.

Janna works not by keeping enemies away, but by ensuring that your team can get out if they need to.

Mage supports are probably the best option for carrying soloQ, honestly. Annie or Brand can get off a lot of damage on their own, which means you can force the enemy to play passively and miss CS, even if your ADC is ignoring them.

Your mom is a good support.

O i forgot, Cass supp is a crazy good choice. Hard to play against a good cass player and the poison just whittles down your foes. If you have a smart ADC you can sit there harassing whilst they cs farm, then one engage and the lane is near enough won. V V strong choice. Her ult helps crazy amounts when your jungler comes in too, just r them and watch jung & ADC rek the enemy bot lane.
