What Should I Have Done?

So I did something wrong last night and undoubtedly got reported by most people in the game.

We were picking champs and I said fill. I ended up with jungle which was fine. Took Amumu. 5 minutes into the game I did not yet chat to anyone. Score was 3-3. Then it began. Our Kayle randomly decided to follow me around the jungle and steal XP and even worse, monster kills from me. She even managed to jack my red when my smite was down. I asked her "Please stop" and that "I did nothing wrong to you". She said nothing and kept doing it.

I typed in all chat: "I am sorry for doing this but I am leaving the game, our Kayle is following me around in the jungle and stealing my camps."

And I left. Did I do the right thing, and if not, what should/could I have done? There was at least 30 minutes left to the game and that would have been a horrible 30 minutes.

Weekend play has been notoriously casual and apathetic for 4 years straight. Don't play weekends except for 5s with friends.

You want a good reason why what you did was incorrect?

You had 3 non-troll teammates who had a right to decide whether to continue playing. The system has a proper method for determining that - it is called surrender. Pre-20 minutes you can talk to your team and agree to "surrender" by abandoning mid lane so that the opposing team can push and win easily.
You missed an opportunity to report Kayle so that the player is banned and can't troll others.
You lied. You said "I am sorry for doing this" when you were not sorry in the least.

That situation sucks and it is unlikely you could win. But if your team didn't want to surrender, you should have tried to force an early victory by going to a lane and pushing. Don't let the enemy take 30 minutes to slowly build a power lead because Kayle is sapping your gold. If Kayle is forced into fights she will at a minimum absorb some of the enemy attacks and possibly fight back. The troll's goal was to make you look bad, so Kayle might not have wanted to damage her own score by doing poorly deliberately in team fights.

Without context i could agree on all three points. But this is an intentional misery causer in this particular situation. Most likely the other 3 players will band wagon with kayle turning it into a 4v1 rage fest, the outcome of which is likely 4x reports. Of course you're getting possibly 4x reported for the afk but at least that way you don't have to deal with the verbal abuse and could instead use that time productively doing something non league related.

Wrong. Who wants to play with a troll? He didn't abandon a team that was trying to win; he was one of 4 people who wanted to get out of this match and play another one without a troll. You'd think 4 vs 1 would count for something.

Besides, it's a video game. If it's no longer fun, you have the right to leave and it is up to the game designer to deal with this.

You did it right. If kayle didn't care about winning and teammates game experience then you should give zero fucks about hers, tell her off, and afk.

If you do this to some one else, if you troll people, blame people, rage at people, or do anything other than act like a good team mate and provide positivity then you deserve to be abused, trolled, and afked on til you lose. Period. You deserve to have your game experience ruined in reciprocal fashion. Period.

Yeah, no, op did it right the first time. No reason to spend time forced to play that game when all it could do would be cause aggrevation, something the opposite of which is what video games were intended for...

Exactly. AFK Farming is how I deal with toxic/troll/bad teammates. I won't take any risks, I won't group. I just safely farm until I feel fed, then I split push. And you know what? It's really fun.

I had a game where my teammates were saying horrible things like my parents should kill themsleves, among other things much worse...... I afk'ed and am on 2 week ban. Going afk is never the answer? When 3 of the 4 teammates are this toxic and you are still trying to be positive. No man, you are wrong, yes mute button works, but when they go that personal in attacks, just afk.

Mute button and report at the end. First toxic thing from a person will see me hitting the mute button.

The ONLY way to make sure those people get punish is to stay and report. By not doing this you are subjecting more people to the same toxic behavior. By afking you are just as toxic as the people who you are afking to get away from.

You didn't get a 2 week ban for a single offense. I've taken marks as a leaver due to power outages, and net outages in the past, and maybe 2 or 3 due to frustration quits.

I've had a small number of games where I've been inclined to rage as well.

None of this has ever brought punitive action down on my account. You won't get flagged without consistent (relative to how much you play) negative behaviors.

You don't have to put up with what they're saying. Simply mute, and report afterward. They're the ones that need to be banned not the victims of their abusive rage. The specificity of the insults really is irrelevant. Anonymous people on the internet don't hold any power over you unless you allow them to.

The fact that ragers are making people quit doesn't absolve the fact that quitting is a problem in the MOBA genre.

CRUNCHOR is right. Kayle would have just followed me to lane. It wouldn't have been sharing. Her end goal was to harass me. She would have baited me into dying and stolen all the CS she could get. This is just not fun. Half of hour of life is pretty precious...

Instead, you decided your entire team and the game wasn't worth your time and just left. The point of this game is to make every experience different from the last, not just "I only play when the game goes the way I want it to". You even could've won.

The point of this game is to make every experience different from the last, not just "I only play when the game goes the way I want it to". You even could've won.

Let's be clear here. KAYLE decided the entire team and game wasn't worth any one else's time, just her own. If she wants to 1v5, I say let her, I'm goin out for a smoke or a burger run or something.

I agree if a troll is going to go out of her way to follow you around, forget about her roll and just troll you, than that's not fun at all and a waste of time. Unfortunately you could have just gave up and focused on something dumb like just practicing your farming until the 20 minute surrender mark. I know that seems like a huge waste of time, and even I get extremely annoyed with trolls, but if you would have just farmed for 10 minutes that's 10 minutes more farm experience you have.

This truly isn't a solution, people like that Kayle need to be gone from the community. But its your only option other than getting reported.

Edit; you could have also still tried to win the game. I have won 4v5 games when my support went AFK, and I had to ditch bot lane, but by helping out a different lane, it ended up balancing well and we still won 4v5. NEVER give up, NEVER. You can have every turret down and still come back to win. Some games will be unwinnable due to lack of skill and knowledge from team members, but it never hurts to just try your hardest.

Understandably op wants sympathy, but you aren't going to get it just cuz you want it. Everyone is entitled to their own opinions.

I would have proceeded to initiate a 2v5 with kayle, then bounced making it 1v5 for the lulz before afking. That's just my opinion on how to handle it.

Exactly, if you're going down, go down with a bang. Go solo baron, or suicide in their base(execution, don't actually feed gold and xp). And if the kayle is following you around, just buy mobility boots and like homeguards or boots of swiftness, or SOMETHING to troll her so hard she stops. Or go into their jungle, and tell the enemy you are there. Wait for the enemy to come, initiate, and run. Hope Kayle dies:). There are so many ways to fight back, instead of leaving. Leaving means you don't get anything, not even the option to report the Kayle.

Is it right to expect you to waste your life on a ruined game?

Not really.

You were sympathetic and the victim, and the mindset of "suck it up and put up with the bullshit" is probably my most-loathed part of this community (which I see as a factor of too many teen-and-lower brats in it) even tho I can see where it comes from; I don't leave games, I just mute idiots and stop trying to win if a game is obviously lost - not throwing it but not wasting anyone's time on either side prolonging a foregone conclusion with my usual shenanigans.

Mind that's "troll game protocol" and not "losing but could still turn it around protocol". I love a good reversal and comeback. Makes victory sweeter.

But no, you should have probably tried to soldier on, and maybe passive-aggressively got TrollKayle killed a couple times. Remember, you don't have to outrun the gank, only outrun your "buddy."

I'm all up for abandoning if there is something toxic in the game.

And imo all the team mates should do that. Carrying one declared toxic player does nothing but justifying the toxic behavior bringing this community to the point it is now (and probably worse in future).

Also I don't see why some1 should feel bound to end a game where such toxicity cannot be fought (Friendly fire mode would be really fun).

I hate that. There have been times where an aggressive mid would take down the wraith camps if they were up before they go back. Very frustrating. Stolen buff though? That's messed up.

Mid oughta be getting as much farm as possible in a competitive game. Let me have em and take the enemy camps. This is doubly effective as it increases the mid laners income without affecting yours and also denies the opponents income.

This isn't a problem if he's taking it in-between minion waves. If he shoved his lane, he can take wraiths to further the gold lead.

Unless he was doing it out of spite, stealing it from you, there's no problem with a mid laner taking wraiths.

As for the OP, he shouldn't have to bear that for 30 minutes, I'd rather quit too. He is not in the wrong here, no matter what anyone says.

One person kept on harassing me so I decided to do the same exact thing you did. Within the next few hours I was banned for a few days for leaving the game.

Was I being harassed? Yes. Did I handle the situation well? No.

What I should have done was gone through the game, mute the player, and report him with an explanation.

Obviously in your case, he was following you, harassing you in game. I think the best thing to do in your case was to go into different lanes and try to help out the other laners. If he follows, it'll be a 2 man gank, he'll stay in the jungle, or he'll return to his lane. Like someone else said, it would have been a learning experience. Of course, at the end of the game file a report with detailed comments.

Hopefully you don't have the same problem.

One AFK will never get you banned. It doesn't work that way.

One afk got me banned when i said i was going afk in chat. If you dont declare it then i think you would be correct, when declared you are gone!

He wanted to play the amumu troll game (you know, the champ want friend and hug) untill it make you rage.

I look at the match and i seems like a lost cause at the start (cause full ap team, pretty dumb choice of your leader >-<) but the 3 death in less than 5 minute probably confort him further in his troll attitude.

The best is to ignore him, wait the end and report the guy (and if he follow you all the game, well, take that as a training to contest buff with enemy team :p), afk solves nothing

No one will blame you for joining a lane when another team member is effectively starving you of your job. They might complain, but they'll understand that kayle is the one in the wrong if it comes down to reporting.
You also fortfit your right to report them, and because you left, the rest of the team will report BOTH of you.

I would have proceeded to initiate a 2v5 with kayle, then bounced making it 1v5 for the lulz before afking. That's just my opinion on how to handle it.

This is a very effective method to teach noobs that want to leech all your gains to back the F&*^ off no matter where you are. You will lose, but have fun doing it. Just opolgyze to your team and explain why you are trolling the noob. I have never had a team respond badly to this, as long as I proceeded smartly around them.

It's really not wrong if he left the other three, they could be Kayle's buddies for all op knows, and in any case the kayles attitude alone is liable to cause issues with the others if they aren't partied with him, making the game last longer is the only wrong option. End it and move on.

Most every other player in the world will whine about you joining their lane. More than just being annoying this is a terrible thing to do strategically, the enemy team now has vision in all 5 players and can freely take objectives and control the map, making it a lot less likely for you to win. The natural exp and income inefficiency of duo lanes would also cause the opposing team to increase income leads, making it less likely for you to win. In addition to being able to control the map better the lanes you abandon are now prone to being freely ganked at any time, resulting in teammate deaths and loss of objectives, making it far less likely for you to win. Seeing the theme yet?

Forfeiture of right to report? Absolutely 100% correct. Op did indeed allow a troll to get away with trolling others in the future and no one should be happy about that, but just the same it's not right for ANY of us to demand he be a martyr and suffer for the sins of others.

For you and all those saying "Mute" Kayle never said a thing! Neither did I! I honestly have no idea why Kayle started following me around. Maybe it was a group on Skype and they said something like "Let's follow Amumu around for no reason and piss him off". I honestly have no idea.

My first words in the whole match was "Kayle please stop". She said nothing.
