Off-Meta Mastery Hype

I'm noticing a lot of people recently have been getting super hyped over players who get super high mastery points on champions by playing off-meta roles.

There is actually an inherent flaw to using mastery points as an indication for the player's general skill with using that champion.

To be clear, I am not saying that these people are not necessarily skilled, only that they will appear to have an unusually high mastery score because of the way the system works.

You are awarded mastery points based on your grade, S, A, B, C, D, and their respective +/- ranks.

This grade is determined by your performance with that champion in the role you just played, compared to the performance of other players playing the same champion in the same role.

So when playing a champion in an off-meta role, your performance is likely to be inflated simply because of the fact that there are fewer examples to compare your performance to.
