Banning All Smurf Accounts

Because frankly I'm getting sick and tired of encountering them. But there's more here. I'll leave the griping to the end.

There is no logical reason for a smurf account in this game, especially in ranked or especially for ranked. This isn't an MMO like WoW or SWToR where having multiple characters makes sense. Storyline, playstyle, items, different things like that.

However in a game like this there is no reason to have a smurf account. All people with smurfs end up doing is deliberately playing in bronze to "test out new things". Who cares? All they do is keep other players who are trying to get out of bronze there because people in bronze can't compete on that level. "But i'm trying something new." Yeah no you aren't. Because you are higher elo than bronze players, you will do better than them even if you are trying something new.

Especially duos. In my play today I've encountered no less than 5 people who say they were smurfs, and given how they played I really don't see a reason to doubt them.

If you want to try something new, then play normals don't play ranked. "But i have to do in a competitive area". Yeah then do it on your level with some practice first in normals. I also just call bs to that shit anyway. I don't even think that smurfs realize that they actually hurt people, nor do I think they care. "It's all about me. I don't care about other players, my time is more important than yours." Well if you are thinking like that, then you need to rethink why you are doing it. Your time isn't more valuable than someone else's. Not to mention that you are punishing the other team. Even if your team is a train wreck, your team will be the wreck that crashes into the other team and wreck them while you all somehow make it out alive.

Smurfs are just a thing that rito needs to make illegal or if they allow them, then normal games only. So do someone a favor if you want to try something new, play a normal game.

Edit: Since there is some confusion, let me make my point clear. NO ONE NO MATTER THE ELO should have a smurf. I used high level elo players having a low elo account because it does happen and happens often. It was an example, but some people cannot seem to grasp this concept.

How to Kill Smurfs

  1. Acquire paintball gun and blue paintballs. Bonus points if the gun is not immediately recognizable as a paintball marker.
  2. Go up to impressionable children and inform them that Smurfs are real. They just happen to be invisible until they die.
  3. Point at random location on the ground and say, "There's one!"
  4. Shoot ground.
  5. Repeat steps 3 and 4 until you get bored or adults show up.
  6. Get thee gone.

Honestly, I kinda get what you're getting at here. I have a low level smurf to use when my newbie friends who just started wants to play. However, I'd consider myself a "polite" smurf. It's just painful to watch newbie mistakes, knowing that this game is pretty difficult, and I get it. I was there, I'm still kinda there. So, I don't go all ham on them. I punish some mistakes, but I allow some to slide and let them get away to learn. I KNOW I can easily stomp them, but I want them to have a chance to have fun at the game too.

Smurfing should be done to play with lower level friends, not to pubstomp noobs or ruin somebody's day with something way out of wack. Ranked is competitive play, no matter your rank. If you queue up in rank, you're in it to win it. Normals are for fun, or to experiment with something for ranked. If you want to try something new for ranked, you better have that shit down to a T.

just my two cents

i think its getting a little out of hand. i understand that there will always be new people playing this game, and its nice to play with friends who may still be new so it wouldnt be right to just play with them and then playing with people of a much higher level skill set. but i think nowadays its getting out of hand. people are just making smurf accounts to get a higher ranking. you start out fresh thus having a higher chance of success when playing with people who obviously havent been playing as much as you. it sets an unfair advantage!

Ever watch nightblue? Lol he has a thousand accounts... basically so he can do dumb builds against lower rankings to impress his viewers. God his voice is annoying. Lol

upto a point you do have a valid argument. HOWEVER......

you may be getting upset at the smurf but went it also forces you to do is to try to up your game. Every now and then it won't hurt you to take a little extra challenge to push yourself. This really applies to almost any competitive environment. You need practice against all sides of the spectrum of player skill to fully improve and I speak from personal experience.

Kids these days just want everything handed out to them.... Smh.

Bottom line is you can either quit and come cry for mommy and daddy (Rito) to fix it or you can buckle down and make less mistakes for your opponent to capitalize on. Ultimately it's upto you.

I know when it comes to Brazilian jiu jitsu I'm always grateful to train with a higher skilled partner. Without them I would never have anything to push me to improve. Same concept applies here.

What you have to keep in mind is that the MMR is the same for everyone, as far as how it is calculated. In the very low levels I see how it could be annoying, but math is math bro. Their other account(s) are completely irrelevant to the matchmaking of their "smurf" accounts. I have a smurf account so that some of my friends can play with me without being slaughtered and discouraged. But my main account (this one) I am never really too serious with, so it doesn't really matter. If I was obsessed with getting plat and getting a high MMR, then I would only be serious with this account, and screw off with the other one. But with this one I both am serious sometimes, and try odd things sometimes, so my MMR never gets too high. Honestly, it is kinda boring being too serious all the time. :/

I understand where you are coming from, most high elo smurfs get play with gold/plats after placements where I am and have dealt with them before. Although you are at a major disadvantage when playing smurfs, I don't think its very fair to say high elo players can only have 1 account but does that mean bronze players can have as many accounts as they want?

It doesn't seem fair to force high elo players to play on their main accounts while allowing bronze players to do what they want just because they are less skilled.

i have a smurf i play on if i fell like being left alone from my friends for a little bit, does that make me a bad person?

Sneekers2/18/2015, 9:47:39 AM1 votes

I have several smurfs and the reason I play them mostly is because I like to get high and play. That being said I don't think players at my elo would enjoy playing with me when I'm stoned and making stupid plays. I play on my low Gold smurf during this time so that I can still play in a competitive environment but at an elo I'm actually performing at. I also do drinking games on my smurf with friends.

Edit: I also only play one role on my main, where as on my smurfs I practice my other roles.
