Just to clarify, why can't we see the rank of our opponents?

We used to be able to and we can still do it if we look it up online, so what is the point of it? Anyone have an actual response from a rioter or such.

I'd assume they don't want to create anxiety and defeatism before the game even started. Matchmaking isn't perfect, lots of times you'll get matched with people ranked far above you.

Even then though people will just go to those websites that will show you peoples rank and other info before the match, so whats the point?

having the ability to see people's rank (through a website) is different than being "forced" to see it by it being displayed on the loading screen.

I have some friends who get really tense / nervous when they play against high elo players, and play way worse than they do normally. It's better for the game to not display this kind of stuff. If one WANTS to know it, the option to do it is still available, so it's kind of a win-win.

^ This. Its a psychological thing.

It was similar with seeing other people's ping before season 4 (I think). Before, everyone could see everyone's ping on the loading screen and if you had a teammate with high ping, chances are you'd say something like "oh great they're gonna feed because of lag" or something along those lines. Now that you can't see the ping of the other players, you won't have a pregame resentment for them having high ping. (Not that everyone had that same train of though, but in ranked things get tense and people get on edge).
