Is LOL the Soccer of Esports ?

I was just watching a new vid on youtube that brought up some interesting points:

  1. LOL is less complex, it is easier to learn but harder to master. That means it is more friendly for the newer, more casual player.
  2. Because LOL is less complex it is easier to watch you don't need as much help to understand what's going on in general. IE you don't need to know about all the complex interactions.
  3. Because of 1. and 2. LOL has a larger casual audience, that means it has a larger pool of fans to translate into the Esports scene.
  4. Among traditional sports, soccer has one of the lowest barriers to entry and the fewest rules, thus it is the most popular as everyone has played it.
  5. Therefore, LOL = Soccer.

Do you all agree?

If so, is there any thoughts you have on how LOL could be made even easier to learn but harder to master?

If you don't, why do you feel that way? What makes LOL harder to learn than other MOBAs and E-sports style games? Which is the easiest E-sport to pick up or to watch in your opinion?

the only thing is in LoL if your fairly new to the game it is sort of hard to keep track of all the things happening at once, especially in big team fights where your screen is filled with abilities and you dont really know whats going on other than "flashy stuff is happening and people are dying" where as in soccer you can just follow the ball with your eyes and you pretty much know whats going on.

BTW im pretty sure riot is working on the new intro bots thing to help new players learn faster.
