Ezreal Campaign Mode

I've had an idea for a Campaign Mode for Ezreal.

Summoner name is not shown above Ezreal, instead it's just "Ezreal". Option to remove the "summoner name" is still available. There is no level number next to Ezreal's health bar. Ezreal's stats are equivalent to him being level 20 at all times of the campaign (unless he is powered up or powered down in some manner by various events/characters)

(ALL ABILITIES ARE ALWAYS MAX RANK) Ezreal starts with Q, E, and W. W is replaced with Arcane Lance.

Arcane Lance - Fires a spear that pierces through targets dealing magic damage. After hitting two targets, it latches to the third one. After a short delay, it explodes, dealing damage in an AoE. Before it explodes, Ezreal can choose to press W again to teleport to the Lance. If he does this, the Lance will not explode and will disappear.

Destructible (or otherwise interactable) things on the map have a special mark on them. They can be hit by the Lance. After Arcane Lance hits one of these special markings, multiple things will happen depending on where it is:

If it hit a wall, the Lance will explode, crumbling the wall, allowing Ezreal to access farther into the campaign.

If it hit a ledge, Ezreal will teleport to the Lance and automatically climb over the ledge.

Arcane Lance can only hit enemies or pieces of the map that are specially marked. This means that firing the Lance at any wall of the map won't allow Ezreal to teleport to it, or destroy the wall. Arcane Lance can only interact with parts of the map that are meant to be interactable (enemies, bits of the map with the Special Mark on them, etc)

After managing to steal The Crystal Bone and absorbing it into his Gauntlet, Ezreal gains a new ability - Digital Maelstrom.

Digital Maelstrom - Circular AoE. Deals magic damage to enemies within it over time. Outside the damage AoE is a larger AoE. This AoE slows down time for EVERYONE and EVERYTHING, including Ezreal, his allies, enemies, even missiles. Everything is time-shifted. Upon leaving the AoE, time is back to normal, but only for the characters that have left the time-slow AoE. Characters outside of the time-slow shooting into it (like Mystic Shot or Arcane Lance) will travel at normal speeds, but only until it reaches the AoE, where it will slow down. The time-slow is more powerful where the center of the ability is (where the magic damage is dealt over time).

You can unlock all of Ezreal's skins in his Campaign, including ones that aren't available. Skins will remain usable only in Campaign. To use his skins in a normal game of League of Legends, outside of Campaign Mode, you need to spend the usual RP for the skins. Skins, new abilities, new items, and whatnot are generally found by either solving puzzles, getting to secret areas, or both.

Campaigns can be bought for either IP or RP. Aside from buying the campaign itself, you cannot spend RP or IP on a campaign (you cannot buy Ezreal more abilities or make him stronger. You must earn everything in the campaign)

There is no Shop. Ezreal can only get new skins, new items, and new abilities by finding them in secret areas or being given to him in special events/by special characters/completing something.

(Please upvote this to bring it to the top. It couldn't fit in the OP)

After meeting Lux, co-op mode is unlocked (only for missions that include Lux or other storyline allies). If Ezreal dies, Lux will act as a Guardian Angel, teleporting in a flash of light (appearing similar to her death animation), reviving Ezreal to 40% HP, and will fight alongside him. (Co-op is not available in this instance. Lux and Ezreal can revive each other in co-op missions, but revives are limited. They are restored at certain points of a mission) After 30 seconds, the Lux NPC will disappear in a flash of light. Ezreal can right-click on her to talk to her, and random lines will be spoken. (This cannot happen in co-op mode) Lux can only revive Ezreal once. Revives are restored at rare points during a mission (less common than co-op). In some cases important to the storyline (maybe Lux is captured or whatnot) Ezreal may not be able to be saved after death and must restart the mission at the previous checkpoint (unless he is in a co-op mission with another player as Garen or whoever else the story currently has, in which case they can revive each other normally.)

-Noxians-

The camera horizontally pans across a forest, showing snakes, trees, grass, whatnot. (Graphics are League of Legends standard, although the dynamically moving camera adds a new feel to the graphics) Continue panning until screen reveals two normal Noxian Soldiers guarding a cave.

(Standard Noxian Soldiers have the movement animation of pre-rework Sion, to make them look silly and funny)

Nox1: "What do you think is in there that Boss Sion wants?"

Nox2: "I dunno man. If you ask, he'll just kill us both. You know how he's been since that battle..."

Nox1: "You have a point, but still...that glowing light is so...interesting."

Nox2: "Curiosity killed the Noxian. Stay here with me and watch the trees for intruders."

Now, the camera pans up. The camera is positioned in the standard top-down League of Legends view. The camera pans down to the bottom of the map, making sure to show off the path Ezreal must go through to get to the cave (as well as the snakes and bugs that will serve as his enemies). The camera also shows the rest of the map, where Ezreal can explore to find special IP boxes (can only be gained once a day) or find other secrets or items. The campaign is mostly explorable. Upon reaching the bottom of the map, the starting area, the camera stops moving. Wait for three seconds, and Ezreal suddenly Arcane Shifts from off-screen to on-screen. The map outside of Ezreal's vision is now in fog of war.

"A white glow in a dark cave...hmm...sounds dangerous." *Ezreal lifts up his gauntlet* "I'm in!"

*Now playable*

Tutorial section. A pop-up appears telling you what the Special Marks look like (the ones that interact with Arcane Lance.) It will then instruct you to fire the Arcane Lance on a nearby rock that has the mark on it. After a brief delay the Lance will explode, destroying the rock revealing two Snakes and the ability Mystic Shot.

Another tutorial pop up appears telling Ezreal he is in trouble. The pop up will instruct Ezreal to use Arcane Shift to jump over the Snakes and pick up Mystic Shot. A note will appear on the right hand side (like when you start an ARAM) telling Ez to fire Mystic Shot at one snake, and autoattack the other snake to kill it.

Ezreal exclaims. "No problem!"

Another ARAM-note appears on the right hand side telling Ez to use Arcane Lance on a tree branch that has the special mark on it, allowing the Lance to interact with it, teleporting Ez to it. After doing this, the Fog of War clears on this area, but the ground level is in Fog of War. At the end of this tree branch is 3 Doran's Blades and a picture of Ezreal and Lux.

"So this is where I left my secret stash. I knew I could remember!"

This is an Epic. Good Ideas. A Different style of gameplay. I could definitely see myself enjoying this or something similar. Nice Job

Lux's Powers

Side notes: Lux's abilities light up dark areas better than Ezreal's Lantern, allowing the team to better navigate dark, trap-ridden areas of missions.

Lux's stats are equal to her at level 20 with a base movement speed of 385. (There are no boots in Campaign)

Shining Singularity - Lux sends out an orb that blinds enemies standing within it and deals small damage over time. Upon detonating the singularity, the blind explodes to a larger area, the blindness lasting for two seconds.

Softshine - Lux encases target ally or herself in light-based armor, increasing maximum health as well as drastically increasing health regen for five seconds.

Brightshine - Lux fires three rainbows in an arc from her wand, dealing small amounts of magic, physical, and true damage to any enemy units hit. The rainbows pass through everything until reaching their maximum ranges.

Spectrum Disruption - Replaces Lux's Lucent Singularity. After channeling for one second, Lux stealths herself and any allies near her for three seconds.

Spectrum Barrier - Lux encases herself or an ally in a rainbow shield that lasts for ten seconds or until the colors are destroyed. Each color has a different effect upon being destroyed and each color has 15% less shield strength than the previous one.

Red: Burns the enemy that broke the color, dealing percent health magic damage over time, and slows them by 20%.

Yellow: Blinds the enemy that broke the color for 3 seconds.

Blue: Upon being broken, A small burst of healing to allied units around the shielded unit.

Green: Upon being broken, Increased health regeneration for shielded unit for three seconds.

Purple: Upon being broken, increases shielded unit's AP by 90 + 30% of total AP.

Final Spark - Lux channels for seven seconds. During this time, she takes double damage. After this time, she will explode into light, dealing magic damage equal to 120% of her AP + 100% of the health she has when the spell finishes casting. Any enemy units who survive the blast are blinded for five seconds. After using this ability, Lux must be revived by a teammate.

Side note: I'm mixing storytelling with game ideas in this thread. I'm not doing one or the other. Remember this if you want to say "give more narration/script scenes" or "give more ideas about how the game would work". I'm doing a bit of both with this thread.

Ezreal's Powers

Trueshot Barrage (This will most likely be his next unlock)

Ethereal Distortion - Ezreal summons an arcane shield on target ally or himself, granting 50% reduction in all damage taken for two seconds. In addition, Ezreal (or targeted ally) moves 40% faster for two seconds.

Mysticbeam X - Ezreal remains stationary for two seconds, charging up his gauntlet. He then thrusts his arm forward, the gauntlet firing a medium-ranged, piercing golden beam of mystic energy, persisting for five seconds. (Ezreal is stationary throughout the firing of the beam.) Once every quarter second, the beam deals percent maximum health magic damage to enemy units struck. The beam slowly gets wider throughout this time until it covers the 90 degree angle that Ezreal is facing. After covering 90 degrees, the beam implodes, dealing physical damage to any enemy units within the fan and knocking them away from Ezreal. The player can finally move Ezreal after this point. Think of this ability as Trueshot Barrage but far shorter range and a lot more destructive.

Arcane Ambiance - There is an ambient magic energy throughout all of Runeterra. Ezreal can use the power of his gauntlet to gather some of this energy, channeling for three seconds to heal himself and any allies near him. As this is such a delicate process, Ezreal takes double damage during this time.

Arcane Lance - Replaces Essense Flux. Magic damage dealing skillshot. Is pass-through until it hits 3rd target, where it jams itself into the target. Ezreal can then allow it to explode, dealing further AoE damage in a small range, or press W again to teleport to the lanced target. (If Ez teleports, the lance does not detonate) Arcane Lance is a requirement to progress in the campaign as it is used on specially marked walls or other objects to detonate them or allow Ezreal to teleport to them to progress.

I'm just posting to congratulate you for the hard work and thinking you put into this.Don't worry,I'm upvoting the other comments so they can stay on top.

I have to admit, I've thought about something similar in concept--but instead, via a sprite-based or vector-based "pseudo-League engine" of sorts in HTML5.

The advantages to this approach being easier editing, faster development, and best of all not needing Riot to be the ones designing it (is would also make a good resume-builder.)

Seeing the effort and some of the cool ideas in here, might I add you in-game to perhaps discuss our ideas further?

Nalyd Rin9/21/2013, 5:09:02 AM1 votes

Wow, congrats on the effort. You put a lot of work and thought into this. Being completely honest though, I don't see this happening any time in the near future. (And speaking from a global business standpoint, I'm counting that into the next few years.) Though really, who knows? It is an interesting idea for the long term as Riot expands an(d LoL grows.

In the more immediate future though. . . that Arcane Lance! <3 I want it on a champion. (Travel abilities always have so much potential for fun craziness. xD )

I think though, for a slight change, rather than having it pierce through two with the third target being the "teleport" point, as it is now, I think it would be more cool (and work better mechanically on the design and programming fronts) for it to have the piercing with the teleport target changing each time it hits something new. It would add some interesting skill to it and require a bit of judgement. Timing it right so you teleport to the champ you want to; being sure not to tele too soon or too late; the question of how many targets you want hit and damaged vs where you want to teleport to; the possibility of weird escapes, with three people chasing you jump away from the one closing in, maybe as they use a skill shot, to jump back to the one in the rear, either a less dangerous target or even one you can kill before the others turn around; etc.

An interesting bit would be if allies could also be turned into "teleport points" if passed through by the ability. Maybe the shot slows enemies it strikes while quickening allies? This change would give it some variety with escape potential, kind of a reverse on Thresh's lantern toss. Although, leaving it as only teleporting to enemies would give it a unique, "all in" commitment flavor and might be a way of balancing with the rest of the kit of such a champ that might use this.

So you want a Warcraft-style game mode in a MOBA game that is based on a MOBA mod in Warcraft III?

I am incredibly impressed with the amount of work and thought you put into this. While I started to skim at around the Co-Op, it's still well done and thorough. One of the problems that something like this poses though, is that eventually, Riot will be pressured to do something similar for ALL the champions (or at least the really lore-important ones). They already need to work with an ever-changing meta, releasing new champions, and reworking old ones. However, maybe it could be made into a different game?

Keep working hard on it. It seems like a good idea!
