I mean, it was also so that the game would be running on a system capable of handling millions of players at a time. The old one was inefficient and initially designed for only a few thousand

I'm not sure that I personally agree with this statement in any form.
I think the client is pretty clear and easily figured out, even moreso than the old client. I think the client runs a ton smoother with less resources (at least on my machine) than the old one. Besides itemsets, the new client has just better functionality than the old client which was a decade old, and they're even adding itemsets due to community feedback.
