@Lyte - The Honor System

Hello Professor Lyte!

Today i am here to ask you and your team to refocus your efforts back to this forgotten feature!

You implemented the honor system October 2012. It was a great effort to use positive reinforcement in furthering the overall objective on curbing raging and misbehavior within games. In my opinion it was (and still is) a great idea. The problem i see:

1.) Apparently the parameters are not too easy to balance. There were either too many ribbons or - like right now - to few.

2.) Lately, most of my friends, me included, lost their ribbons because people simply do not honor anymore.

3.) After much hype and initial effort, You Riot, stopped being involved! It feels like you abandoned the program.

I urge you to rekindle your interest in this. Positive reinforcement is awesome. It makes people feel good! Reconfigure the parameters again.

START ACTUAL INCENTIVES!

By that i mean real rewards, maybe like small amounts of ip, ip boosts, special ward skins, special champion skins! Get people excited about this again! RE-HYPE! People should be proud about honor achievements. And Players should be willing to give honor, where honor is deserved! Please put your focus back onto the honor system!

Sincerely, Aero

Finally someone says it. Since they made it harder to get any of the Honor Badges, I've probably seen 50 people max with any badge at all. I think they should reset the honor as well after every season, and give you some kind of reward at the end of the season for being an honorable opponent, etc.

I'm not saying the plan was half baked but maybe if they made it easier to get the ribbons or they could just possibly re-work the whole thing but I do feel like it was abandoned and it's just a way to tell an enemy team player "Nice carry" and a pat on the back for the rest of your team.

I run a small self-forum to catalogue ideas and the like. I encourage people to post even if they don't make themselves members. The other day I got this idea http://singaming.freeforums.net/thread/14/shield-solitary-honor-initiative-directive

And I thought it was interesting. I don't have the ability to enact it, but it's still worth a read.

I think a lot of the Player Behavior team's efforts have gone into this up-coming Team Builder mode. While this looks really cool, it does make it feel as if the honor system is no longer in the team's sights.

A reward system would do wonders for having a reason to honor. Simple things like summoner icons or ward skins would suffice. They could even make the rewards happen out of nowhere so there could be no way to plan for and farm honor when you see that a reward is coming up; you either have enough honor at the time, or you won't get the prize.

I've seen a lot of discussion on the honor system, and I hope after they release this awesome Team builder mode, the folks at Player Behavior will revisit the honor system and spruce it up a bit.

The problem lying in that is the fact that people at that point will just play matches with their friends to get all honors so that they can get free incentives. There has to be a way to encourage friendlier more mature play without giving people a reason to leech onto rewards for the wrong reasons. Its a very hard idea to come up with because you could go to a different perspective and have it affect game play however, no matter how you look at it people will honor falsely so that they can reap such benefits or rewards. The only way I can begin to imagine a working system is a feature that can read game play tactics and communication skills and criteria, if the system detects certain words that strain together in a team orientated way honor would be given in teamwork by the system. Same thing with detecting player movements reactions to situations and their objective priorities. However, not only would such a system be far to complex to create for over 7.5 million players all at the same time at peek, it would also be manipulable. So I can start to understand why Riot has almost seemingly all but given up on the honor system because in conceptual design there just seems to be no truly good way to rightly encourage mature game play.
