Why do I get so much mastery points for taking ages to win the game

But get jack for closing it out early? Seems counter counter-intuitive to me but there the system is in all its glory.

Because you're playing the champ longer? That's kinda how getting a mastery with someone works, longer you do it, the more you have mastered it.

But a shorter game indicates higher skill level and more mastery over the champ..

It really is, if you've already played the champ before the system came out, already have a good understanding etc, then your ability to work well with your team and close out the game indicates you're a lot better with the champ, but it any case Riot have indicated they want the primary focus to be winning the game so why do they put it at longer? Quite frequently I have people not wanting to end because "More mastery" " More IP" I think people should be rewarded for quicker swifter games but alright, each to their own I guess...
