Why do I get so much mastery points for taking ages to win the game
But get jack for closing it out early? Seems counter counter-intuitive to me but there the system is in all its glory.

Because you're playing the champ longer? That's kinda how getting a mastery with someone works, longer you do it, the more you have mastered it.
