Can we stop with this idea that the only champions you can play are "in the meta" champions?

I just got flamed at for "losing" us the game for picking Rammus jungle. Now I could understand if I was playing Zyra ADC or Taric mid, but Rammus is a great jungler, with one of the highest winrates in the game. He's also one of my higher W/L champions and just about carried me from bronze to almost gold last season. Just because a pro isn't playing it, doesn't mean the champion isn't a good pick. When you see Xin and Kalista picked, both champs you can stick on, or peel your carries for, it's a good pick.

Simply following what pros do is silly to do. Learn to play different champions that fit your/their team and try out different champions. Chances are it isn't that bad of a champion, and if it hasn't been played a ton, people may not know how to play against it.

Agree. I've been playing Yorick support and got some trash talking for it until my team realized how OP he was. Of course you're going to be the one they blame if your team loses but don't let it get to you. Playing a champion you're good with in an off meta lane is better than playing one you don't know in its dedicated lane. Not saying that Rammus Jungle is off meta, he's just not a popular pick.

You don't understand the game. Champions aren't "OP" or "meta" because "pros play" them. They are in META because of PATCH changes - pros are USUALLY the first to find out which champions do best according to said changes; you'd think some low numbers such as 5 or maybe 10 don't mean much, but those change completly how the game goes. The items aren't the same from a year ago, champions have been changed a lot since then, so yeah Rammus is not a good pick anymore.

It is also only logical as a low elo player to use the best champions at the moment. Yes, in league playing champion X which you have hundred of games with but it isn't very good right now due meta changes is an worse decision than picking champion Y which you probably rarely if ever played but it is top tier and easy to play.

Stick to meta in ranked games. No one cares about normals, but don't go with outdated and not-really-good champions when there are obviously better choices at your hand in a competitive environement where everyone wants to win and pick the best champions at the time.
