The Game's Main Problem (Not a Rage)

This is just me sharing a random thought. There's nothing that can be done with this information by us or Riot. Say what you will, but most of the problems with this game are the community.

It wasn't until Overwatch came out that it really dawned on me why though. Overwatch demands a little more from your computer to run smoothly. Meanwhile, League isn't very demanding on computers; most people can struggle through 12 fps on an average rig if they wanted to, which means almost any type of person can play. From Riot's perspective, that's a good thing. Making sure this game is as accessible as possible should be one of their goals, and they've done a great job at that. However, from our perspective it makes the game nigh on intolerable at times.

Take Call of Duty. I'm sure most of you have played it, and for most of you it was probably on a console. And if there's any game that's famous for raging twelve year olds, it's Call of Duty... on console. A friend of mine has bought and sold each version of that series time and time again because we enjoy playing it, but hate the players. But he plays on PC with no problem. Why is that? Because most people don't have a PC that can run multiplayer CoD at anywhere near playable quality. So the ones that are left are people who are loaded or just serious about gaming and those are the types of people that you can generally tolerate.

To bring it back around, LoL is the console version and Overwatch is the PC version. You're gonna have to drop at least $500 before the mouse, screen, keyboard, and the game itself for Overwatch, and a laptop will be even more expensive. But if anyone can get on LoL, it explains why there's so many people asking "are you autist?" (seriously, I have never seen anyone ask if someone was autistic and phrase it correctly. perhaps it's because intelligent people aren't that rude), or why this Gnar is still going all-in against the 5-0 Riven. They're probably just a bunch of 12 year olds.

EDIT: This is not bashing those with bad computers/connections! I myself play on a laptop that can get ~70 fps, but can really only keep ~35 fps consistently. I'm not saying anyone who doesn't blow two months' paychecks on a computer is a raging feeder, I'm saying raging feeders are more likely to play on toasters.

_Because most people don't have a PC that can run multiplayer CoD at anywhere near playable quality. _ ..0.o You realize a console is basically just a really crappy PC, in terms of specifications, right? Gamers tend to vastly exaggerate the requirements for gaming, and big brands make money off of people buying uselessly overkill hardware, so they go along with it.

a well-chosen 500-700$ PC can run any current online game on mid/high graphics 60FpS, and run just about anything else decently, unless it is trash-optimized.

As far as LoL, a 400$ computer with no GPU and a decent intel CPU should be able to get 60FpS on mid graphics, any computer with a graphics card from the last 7 years should be able to get stable 60 on maxed graphics (i have done this with a gtx 550TI 1GB, which also ran warframe, firefall, wildstar, FFXIV on maxed or high graphics. Amusingly it crapped out on GW2, because the game is optimized incredibly badly).

The real problem here is the price of the game (free), and the fact it is PvP (attracts young kids). Overwatch has a pricetag out of reach of your average 11-year-old, and less people are going to try out buy2play games = less popular = less youtube circlejerk = less fanboy babies.

The other problem is that the community is too big for live support to handle reports most of the time, and a computerized system is bad at detecting trolls that are not doing obvious things (rush-feeding, chat abuse). Because most people don't have a PC that can run multiplayer CoD at anywhere near playable quality. Playing AP shaco support is totally legit as far as riot is concerned (and yes, i have seen people do it and carry, amusingly).

Very true. My laptop can't run overwatch but can do league well. However, even in my laggiest games I don't feed because after losing twice, if you decide to still to try and fight, you're the problem. Not your computer, not your team, not the champion, not your internet, it's your decision making.
