How does Dota 2 let you find matches in different servers while league can't?

I'm not really into computers or anything, but if someone is, care to explain why Riot isn't doing the same? Is it because Valve is a bigger corporation than Riot, hence their technology is better? I mean, it's gotta suck to be in Hawaii with God knows how high of a ping

Also, in Dota 2, if players fail to connect, the game goes back into match-making wherease in league GG WP 4 vs 5. Is it because league is older than Dota 2, that their code is difficult to change?

Could be multiple things, steam does not have that good of servers to be honest, but I herd a lot of the issues holding riot back is their engine is so old. It's came out in 09 and they stated they will eventually have to redo the whole thing.

It's most likely because- from Riot's own admission- the client/server framework they built for the original game was only designed to support 20,000 players. Small enough that it only needs one server, so on-the-fly server switching isn't worth anything, since it was designed for not 20 million players.

They're redoing everything there over time, but it might be a while.

Either way, fluctuating ping and multiple servers don't seem worth it- more maintenance for Riot, which raises their bottom line, which means they either need to make more money or fire people from more useful teams.

Hawaii is also a pretty unique case, and there isn't a good solution other than giving Hawaii its own server (Due to the fact that it's surrounded by... lots of water... on all sides, and there isn't a good/close path away.)

One thing that is better on LoL for having one server is wait times though... Usually I can find a game in less than 30 seconds. I don't think I've ever had a que less than 10 min on Dota.

Im pretty sure Riot is a bigger company than valve, League is bigger than all steam games put together, dota2 included.

Plus dota2 HAS TO let you look for games on other servers or it will take you 20 minutes to find a game, which is why on dota everyone plays on like 140 ping every game while on league most people have a good ping due to how the servers are organized.

LoL >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Dota 2

league runs on a service that locates closer players on the same server for lower ping. If you connected to their other servers (EUW, EUNE, OCE, etc), you would have a massive ping difference simply because your packets have a longer route to travel from their PC (and server) to your computer.

A lot of it is their system, and inexperience in networking as a company. Valve has been around longer than riot.
