MMR - Match Making Rating

Hi,

I would like to know how MMR actually works. For instance, when I check my MMR on OP.GG (I know this is not official) it tells me "Your MMR depends on how you play".

What does this mean exactly?

It is win/loss?

Does it calculate based on say, how many time i walk into an enemy's range, take damage and return none?

How many times I take tower shots?

Does anyone have an official response?

ok really quick summary.

Any algorithm thats not from riot is wrong and just gives you a feel for where you are. Now that thats clear its based of w/l but not just w/l itself. It takes into account the mmr of the people you won against and loss against. So you win against people your level you gain minimal mmr but if you lose against people 200 elo below you then you lose alot more.

Again these sights just create their own algorithm that is applied to everyone equally so it looks like its correct, it could be completely off from riots internal algorithm.
