The new champion is overpowered you say???

Why do people still get surprised by new champions being overpowered?

EVERY TIME a champion is released, or reworked, Riot INTENTIONALLY overtunes them.

Strong champions get more gameplay.

A lot of gameplay means a lot of data

A lot of data means Riot can get a good sense of what is strong and weak about a champion.

They almost always leave them in this state for at least a full patch, maybe two, maybe more, before making any adjustments unless they are bugged.

Lets also not overlook the fact that strong champions on release get extra hype, ... which means that players are more likely to scramble to pick them up, .. which usually means that Riot makes more MONEY
