#Welcome to the shiny and updated Community Boards! If this is your first time here, please come on over, this post was made specifically for you!

Happy to have you around! Whether you’re coming here from vBulletin, Reddit, or just happen to be passing through I for one want you to have the best possible time here, and because of that I hobbled together this post to help you on your way.

Now on the off-chance you missed them, there are indeed posted rules found here. These rules apply across the whole CB, as well as more specific rules in each sub-board, and while I can guarantee you common courtesy and a positive attitude will keep you well out of trouble, it wouldn’t hurt to check them out when you’ve got the chance!

Now you may have already seen quite a few new things, the CB boasts a good amount of awesome tools for convenience and information. I’ve been here pretty much from the start, so let me show you around the place!
------------------------------------------- Boards ------------------------------------------- http://i.imgur.com/IK9h4ly.png

  1. PvP.net profile link - Change your log-in information and look at the Summoner’s Code. It’s always been there, but nonetheless still useful.

  2. Riot Support Link - Direct link to Riot support, you can check the knowledge base and/or submit a Ticket here. Also not new but a lot of people don’t seem to notice it at first.

#####What is a ‘Ticket’?
A Ticket (Or Support Request) is a text request to a support employee for Riot. This is an awesome tool to use for specific technical and logistical problems. Essentially, if you need a Rioter’s direct assistance go here and fill out a form. You’re not the only one though so it may take a while for a response to happen, be patient! (And don’t forget to check your e-mail)

  1. My Profile - This link will bring you to your own personal CB profile page. Here you can see all of your recent posts and comments, as can anyone else who clicks your name.

  2. My Updates - The CB has a system in place to directly reply to posts and other comments, and when someone does this to you a little alert will appear here. You can click the ‘My Updates’ link to go directly to a page showing all of your current unread updates. You can also change the ‘Unread’ to ‘All’ to see any updates you want to see again.

  3. Inbox - Important messages can be found here. Currently it used for moderation alerts but will probably have more features later on.

  4. Ordering Options - Currently, there are four ordering options available.

Hot factors in a post’s upvotes and pits it against the time posted. This is particularly useful when post traffic is high (ala new champ, new patch) because it will naturally show you the trending topics.

Recent simply factors in time submitted, and is particularly useful for forum binging. You know what they say, gotta read ‘em all! :)

Best factors in nothing but upvotes, from the main post as well a small fraction of the comments. If it’s your first time here I suggest going through this ordering for a bit, there are some awesome ideas out there!

Recently Replied bumps the post with the most recent activity. This is a good option to keep track of active threads.

  1. Riot Presence - A Rioter has visited this thread! Find out more by going in and looking.

  2. New Comments - When you visit a thread, it’s marked as read with the purple coloring. Any new comments posted in that thread after that point will show up with this yellow marker. You can click this marker to jump into this thread showing only new comments. This is particularly helpful in incredibly popular posts.

  3. Visibility Score - This represents how many votes a post currently has. More upvotes means more people that want this post to be seen. While I suggest to read the post first, you can indeed vote from the board.

To clarify a vote is NOT a representation of whether you specifically agree/disagree or like/dislike personally, it's whether you would like more people to see this post (upvote) or you feel it's not worth anyone's time (downvote).

  1. Red Tracker - Ever wanted to know what the latest Riot activity is? This tool shows all recent Riot activity both in the CB and in the vBulletin forums, including posts and comments made.

  2. Server/Region - This shows where a player hails from. The CB has the major benefit of being capable of supporting multiple regions at once. Anyone who’s made a level 1 NA account to browse the Riot forums knows how useful this can be. Try out your main account to see if your region is supported here!

------------------------------------------- Post -------------------------------------------

  1. Quote - This button will automatically copy and quoteblock all text within this entire post in an immediate reply. Very useful for replying to small posts, use with caution on large ones!

  2. Share - Are you a social media aficionado? Well, here’s your button! Use this link to share this post with your friends/followers over Facebook, Twitter or just copying this post’s URL straight to your clipboard.

  3. Report - To be used if a post is found offensive and moderator action needs to be taken.

#####ONLY to be used if it is found to be specifically within the shown options for report types.

  1. Edit - Self-explanatory, touch up your post with this. (Fun fact: you can also get around the character limit by adding more with editing, shhhhhh)

  2. Attachment - Embed not enough? Upload attachments to your post with this button.

  3. Detailed Red Tracker - This Red Tracker is a bit more focused than the broader out-of-post Red Tracker. This one shows a preview of the Red Comment in order of date/time submitted. This pertains within this post only.

  4. Comment Jump - Whatever Rioter comment you're previewing at the moment you can jump to with this button.

Not Shown) Rioter Rundown - Ever wanted to see just the red comments? Well that's what this does, it shows all the red comments with the option of seeing the 'parent comment' (the comment the red comment stemmed from). This will appear above the Comment Jump link once a certain number of Rioter replies is met.

------------------------------------------- Comment ------------------------------------------- http://i.imgur.com/xc9h0Xj.png

  1. Chronological View - (Previously ‘Switch to Flat’) If you aren’t a fan of nested comments, and/or more of a fan of vBulletin’s style, hit this and watch the magic.

  2. Ordering - Just like the board’s ordering, but just with ‘Best’ and ‘Recent’. If, for whatever reason, you don’t want votes to affect your comment ordering just switch to recent!

  3. Input Box - Where you type!

  4. Formatting Guide - This little box will give you all the goodies on the basic formatting in the CB. Things like embedding, hyperlinks and some syntax can be found here.

  5. Toolbar - Various things can be had here, from inserting icons to adding attachments, you’ll be using this a lot I promise.

  6. Minimize Comment (Not highlighted) - At the top right of any comment (in nested view specifically) there is a button to minimize said comment and all 'children' comments connected to it. This is very useful for crowded comment sections and conversations you're not particularly interested in.

Thanks for reading this far! If you would like a headstart on getting your posts out there feel free to pay these posts a visit!

Board Formatting 101

A guide I made for long posts, it has all of the formatting syntax as well as readability tips and troubleshooting. If you want to make sure people aren’t scared of by your wall o’ text go here!

Forum Decorum

Most of this doesn’t have to be said, because it’s just common decency really, but here is a list of general do’s and don’ts when it comes to other forum goers. These aren’t rules, imagine it as a guide to not be a jerk. (Feel free to link to someone if you feel the need, I’ll be happy to talk to them)

Useful Images

Simply put, I post here a lot. I mean a lot, and I usually make/find some great pictures in the process. This post contains an imgur album of all the images I’ve used in the CB and anyone is 100% welcome to use them as they see fit, no credit needed.

Unreasonable Complaints and why they are so by Dessembrae

The epitome of “I couldn’t have put it better myself”, Summoner Dessembrae has broken down some of the most unconstructive complaints found on the forums and explained in detail why they are not helpful.

In-Depth New Player Guide by The All Tomato (Link to Mobafire, one of many LoL guide sites)

Summoner The All Tomato saw a need to fill the information gap for newer players and knocked it out of the park! If you are even somewhat new to League I highly suggest to give this guide a look-see, it’s freaking massive but very well organized.

What intro post would be complete without a frequently asked questions section? Check this out before anything else, you’ll probably be asking one of these questions down the road!

OMG RITO FIX. SERVERS. LAG. DC. CAPS LOCK!

Check out the service status sub-board for the latest news on any problems if you think the problem is one Riot’s end. As well as any posts in Help & Support to see if anyone else is having the same problem. If it’s not up there go submit a Support Ticket.

#This link just brings me back to the post I started from!

Don’t open the link in a new tab! If you’re leaving the forums it’ll do that automatically after you get through the “facechecking” warning, so you trying to do get a new tab at the same time creates an issue.

#Where’d my post go?? I just posted it!

Keep in mind on slower internet connections a post can take up to 2 minutes or so to appear. On top of that, make sure your ordering is set to ‘Recent’ if there is high traffic. If all that fails, try finding it through your profile page.

#Where’d my post go?? It was up there for a bit, I even had comments!

Most likely, this was taken down by a moderator. Now before you freak out, keep in mind this doesn’t necessarily mean you’re in trouble or anything. In fact, one of the easiest ways to have a post removed is by placing it the wrong sub-board. I’ve done this a few times myself actually! Check your inbox at the top right and if moderator action was taken a message will be waiting for explaining what happened.

#I lost my really long draft! Is there any way to get it back?

Currently, no. It’s one of the more commonly requested features, but in the meantime try to get into the habit of occasionally backing up your long drafts with either a separate text document or simply by occasionally copying to your clipboard. I have done this a lot myself and am always glad to have that word document behind the scenes.

#Why are you doing this?

I just like helping. Seriously, simple as that. This entire post is just a culmination of me answering questions like “where is this?” and “what exactly does this do?”. And on that note, feel free to ask me anything you still don’t understand. If it’s in the Community Boards chances are I’ll know or know someone who does.

#I found a bug! What do I do now?

Awesome! I'm glad you're trying to help out! There's a few things that you should try to do.

  1. Reproduce and record the bug. Pics (vid) or it didn't happen, and it really helps the red-side out.
  2. Isolate factors where you can. For example if it's extra AP from an unknown source, make sure it's not just a bug in the display, show that damage is actually being added. Tooltips can have their own errors too!
  3. Very Important: If the bug is abusable do NOT post it in the forums, submit a support ticket with the above information to privately inform Riot staff. You're not doing anyone any favors by making an abusable bug public.

#Why can’t I make a post?

There are some sub-boards that don’t let players make posts, i.e. Announcements.

#Addendum

If I missed anything or you have a question please do not hesitate to ask!

Too bad that is not how the vote system is used.
