Riot should add a "Pity Timer" for Gemstones

For those who don't know: In games like Hearthstone and Overwatch, there's an invisible timer in their packs/loot boxes that slowly builds up. Every time you don't get a legendary, your pity timer increases. Eventually, the odds are so heavily stacked in your favor you're bound to get a legendary card/skin.

As of now, Gemstones are stupidly rare with no way to swing RNG in your favor sans buy more boxes. And frankly, it feels shitty opening your fourth box of the month and getting another champion shard. Please note some things:

  • It won't suddenly make everyone get the hextech gems.
  • Still favors paying customers (Because Riot loves their profit).
  • Makes you feel a little better overall. "Well that was a crap box but hey at least my timer went up".

With the third crafted skin this patch, maybe it's about time Riot addressed the pitiful state of getting gemstones without forking over hundreds of dollars.

I just want to know why, as a support main, I keep getting A's and A+'s on everything. . . . . . Except when I play support.

Gems be damned. I can't even get a chest if my grades are determined by a D20!

only good skin of the hextec crafting skins is the darius skin soulstealer vayne is a TRASH skin not even worth the time and effort and $ to obtain it

There's already a pity timer on key shards.

Forget gemstones, can we get a pity counter for skin shards? I only just last night got a skin shard after I think almost ten chests of champ shards that I can't even use at the moment because I already own all the champs. Do you know how shitty it is to actually pay for keys to open those extra chests only to get essentially the same worthless thing over and over again?

I have gotten about 30 chests so far (last season + this season) and I have gotten zero Gems so far :D

im very aware that i will never get enough gems for a skin and is more likely i get one of the hextech skins shards so if i get one i just turn it into a chest

the notion that you will eventually get one gem no matter what is a strong feeling that leads ppl to spend money, it works on every game like a waranty rare card in TCGs and stuff like that

I've never gotten a single gemstone.

I bought two 10packs before, plus... estimating two dozen free boxes, maybe more. I understand RNG is RNG and I generally have bad rng (but hey I got Spirit Guard Udyr! Don't play him but yay!) . I already don't like gambling, but not even 1 in 50 odds of a SINGLE piece I need (when you need 10!) means you're just not getting my money.

lol ive gotten one gemstone and i havent missed a chest yet dont know the exact numbers but im sitting on 6 chests rn so if anyone can do the math out of all of those i only got one gem

That's like putting a 'pity timer' on the lottery. It defeats the purpose of it.

They want you to pay money for this. There is no reason they should give away more things for free in exchange for simply playing the game, since the privilege of playing the game does not cost money.

I just want some dang keys. I've had 10 boxes since december, and it finally went down to 9 (I opened two boxes in 4 months, but I got another box since then.)

PillowVillow4/6/2017, 10:07:01 AM1 votes

Eh, it's not that rare. I usually get one every like 5-7 boxes. But, maybe a pity timer of every 10-15 boxes would be appreciated.
