"Just report them afterwards" is not satisfactory when it comes to dealing with asshats

Riot, you can disagree with me on this, but I do not find reporting someone to be at all adequate when it comes to getting paired up with a pure asshat player. Very few of them give any f#cks about getting banned when they'll just make smurfs, and before a match ends, they do their damndest to ensure you go through hell. Try to fight back in any way? Riot punishes you for defending your pride and/or self-esteem, or for telling someone to go F*** themselves when they tell you to kill yourself.

Call me a hypocrite, call me as bad as them, I don't care. There are times when I seriously want to watch one of those asshats burned alive. And no amount of reporting or banning that guy is going to make that go away.

Surely you have to know how that feels.

Mute and report. Three powerful words that no one seems to use. If someone is being an "ass hat", you can take the opportunity to take 2 seconds to push the TAB and mute them. Then report them if you must. The mute option is there for a reason.

Well...muting them kinda stops them from getting to you...and then you just play the game...most people who are toxic do it because someone is giving them attention in some way and adding fuel to the fire. Don't be the fuel and there won't be a fire. Just a report button at the end of the game. gg.

MUTE. Seriously just mute and make a mental note to report after the game. The game becomes so much better and you miss virtually nothing from muting the one toxic player. I used to hesitate to mute but realized there is no point. In fact, not muting is toxic to the rest of your team since you may miss important things if you are just standing there typing instead of playing.

I cannot emphasize enough how great the mute button can be.

agreed cant keep playing to win with some of these players and they only get worse as you play

By talking to them... you're encouraging them.

The reality is if a person is genuinely toxic like you describe(which is fairly rare overall but that's neither here nor there), then they're TRYING TO GET TO YOU. Which means that if you respond with them, whether it be 'defending yourself' or whatever... you're giving them exactly what they're after. You're validating their behaviour and thus... they win.

Not only that, but you're also encouraging your allies and possibly even your enemies to get involved, which just makes the situation worse. Don't reply to them, mute if you have to, and focus on trying to play the game.

If you do anything but that... you're part of the problem too because you're making the problem worse. One toxic person is a minor annoyance. Two toxic people arguing with each other in all caps ruins games.

one of the guys i reported i saw complaining on these very forums

ever since then i've had complete faith in the system, so reporting feels really good to me.
