Is there a way to view the active number of players currently on League?

A lot of games will have some place to view the number of players currently online or the number of games currently in progress. I was wondering if there is any way to do that with League of Legends? I tried googling it, but I only found statistics for specific dates for articles. If anybody knows where to check the current number of active players/games, please let me know.
