Lore Question!

What's the lore reason that champions can't kill their teammates on the battlefield? Is there one? Has there ever been one? It seems odd to me that, say, Zilian can't blow his teammates up by placing a bomb on them instead of the enemy. No, I don't want it to be a feature of the game. I'm just curious.
