How do people play with unlocked camera?

Been playing for 2 years, always use locked camera unless I'm trying to land a global ult. I just find unlocked screen very disorienting and I can't focus on the screen very well. I also think it makes sense for the camera to follow you just like it does in every other video game. I understand the benefits of playing with unlocked camera but I can't do it.

You really need to learn how to play with unlocked camera. Playing with a locked camera makes you tunnel on certain things, as well as lowering your overall map awareness. MOBAs evolved from RTS games, which are free cameras, as you need to be moving and looking all over the field

I feel ya, my other friends say that using unlocked camera is very great, but I just can't do it at all. [slayer-jinx-unamused]

You might not be spending enough time looking at your mini map. Then just use your screen to last hit. Land skill shots and dodge stuff.

I'm just used to unlocked camera because I played a lot of Age of Empires as a kid, where you'd regularly click around the map to look at stuff (like first post said). Locked camera is more disorientating for me than anything else lol

The only way to get used to playing with it is to just start using it. It sucks at the beginning, but much better when you get used to it.

Locked camera takes a bit of time getting used to.

When I started playing League of Legends I had mostly played games on Nintendo consoles that had focused the camera on yourself. It felt natural to use the locked camera when I first started playing. As I started getting better and better at League of Legends I started to realize the benefits of playing with the unlocked camera more and more, and started trying to play with the unlocked camera almost exclusively. It was hard at first, but eventually I got good enough at using the unlocked camera that I have no trouble now.

The biggest advantage of using the unlocked camera comes from champions with long-ranged abilities, even if they aren't global abilities. Unlocking the camera makes it so much easier to play long ranged casters because you can always stretch the camera away from you to use your ability, then put it back on yourself without having to manually unlock it to use these abilities.

How do you check what's going on in the rest of the map? Seems like that would make jungling and roaming in general impossible. I've always played with it unlocked. Just use space bar to come back to your character.

SPACEBAR is my friend :D

If you get disoriented, press Space Bar. If that still doesn't help, consider rebinding Camera movements to keys rather than the mouse.

It is something to get used to, but playing unlocked camera will make you a much better player.
