Pokemon omega ruby: help

Hi. I have been playing Pokemon games since the first ones were released and I have enjoyed every release. However, I am not really a pro at these games. Usually I finish the main story, catch some of the legendaries and then I'm done, but I realise there is a bunch of other stuff I can do in these games and I want to be able to experience that. The problem is that there are so many things that I could do, and yet I don't know what's worth doing and if I do attempt something, I don't know if I'm wasting time.

For instance, I've finished the story and delta episode in omega ruby, caught some of the legendaries, and now I'm attempting to get a perfect surskit/get a shiny. I have about twenty one surskit with three IV's each, but I don't know how best to proceed. I have read serebii.com , and I understand it somewhat, but it would still be good if someone gave me a different perspective on the matter. I am concerned too about dealing with all of these variables e.g. After doing the breeding properly, how do I deal with evolution, how do I deal with abilities, natures e.t.c.

To sum up, I am looking for some direction on what to do next in the game. Should I grind through this daunting task of trying to build a really good team, or should I start smaller, or do I try something else first? Thanks

P.S I don't think surskit is at all a good pokemon to play with competitively, I basically picked it at random. Also to farm for honey, until I realised all I needed was a pokemon with sweet scent (face palm).

great thing about pokemon is you can just set a goal and work towards it. you dont have to be competitive or anything, you just have to have fun.

personally im working on a full team of Eevees in alpha silver, one of each type and with very specific movesets. Is it some incredible unbeatable team? No. But it's a fun goal for me.

Obviously there's an efficient way to do anything, but a huge part of enjoying a game is the learning process which comes from messing around on your own. You'll make a ton of mistakes along the way, but that just makes your knowledge more valuable to you :)

The secret bases are pretty good if you get max rank, you can get them to power level your pokemon/EV train/give you rare items.
